COMPANY OVERVIEW

Nike was originally founded by track athlete, Philip Knight, with the help of his coach Bill

Bowerman at the University of Oregon. They wanted to scrap as much of the overbearing

sneakers and spikes as they could to use as little material as they could to design an

adequate sneaker. The two men experimented with many different materials to try and

get the right feel for the sneaker. They tested out kangaroo leather, velvet, deer hide,

snakeskin, and even fish skin. They wanted to strive for the correct material for optimal

support, run, and fit.

Nike has now evolved into the company it is today. It has expanded its company to

athletic wear, shoes, accessories, and more. Nike’s mission statement is to “Bring

inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world.”. They pride themselves on their

sustainable products and advancement to sports accessories and paraphernalia.

The Nike headquarters is located in Beaverton, Oregon. There are over 1,100 Nike

locations both internationally and across the United States. Nike has a target audience

of anybody who is active- women, young athletes, and runners, and makes $28 billion in

annual sales.

Priding itself on its leading sport, athletic wear, and apparel, Nike is one of the most

prominent athletic companies in the world and grows exponentially by the year.
