RESEARCH METHODS

This chapter presents the research methods used in the study. It also

discusses the research design, research environment, subjects, research

instruments and their validity, data gathering procedures, and the statistical

treatment of the data.

Abstract

Using data from a sample of college students from a private

college/university in the Philippines, this study examined the relationship

between parent/s’ overseas work and left-behind children’s career choice

intention in terms of overseas employment, domestic employment and

entrepreneurship and the quality of life of their left behind children. Contrary

to the assumptions, result showed that generally, parent’s work abroad is not

related with the career plans and quality of life of their children. College

course/degree where respondents are enrolled at had the significant

relationship with their career choice intention specifically in domestic

employment. Further, it had significant relationship with their perception of

the quality of life in social acceptance aspect.

Research Design

The research design to be used in this study will be the descriptive

research method was used in the study. The data obtained from the pupil

respondents were gathered, tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted. This will

involve collection of data in order to answer the questions concerning the

academic and emotional stability of the students. The aim of the design will

be to determine the contribution of pupils of overseas Filipino worker their

academic performance and emotional stability.

Research Environment

This study will be conducted at Christ the King College de

Maranding(CKCM) which lies in the humble town of Lala, Lanao del

Norte(Figure B). The school is composed of Muslim and Non-Muslim

students, which encourage the researchers’ interests to choose the location

for the said study.

The aforesaid school, SNDIS, has enrolees under a regular class

program. It makes use of 6 classrooms and utilizes the stage as a classroom.

The school is still calls for a conducive classrooms, gymnasium, library, and
school clinic. The new high school would cater students in the municipality

that could not be accommodated in the neighbouring schools (Adapted from

the School Improvement Plan, 2016).

Subjects

The subjects of the study were the both college and high school

students of Christ the King College de Maranding, Maranding, Lala Lanao

Del Norte who officially enrolled in the school year 2018-2019.

The number of subjects needed by the researchers to complete this

study will be 40 students of each department; two department will be needed

to come up with meaningful results and to really determine the exact

contribution of the academic performance and emotional stability of the

overseas Filipino worker of the target subjects. Thus, there will be a total of

80 subjects on both department we observed.

In pairing the subjects, they will be equally divided by their level of

intelligences that refers to a situation of having the same number of smart

students to academic performance. After the pairing, there will be tossing of

the coin in which the head will be the indicator for their academic

performance while the tail will be for their emotional stability.

Data Gathering Procedures

TheTraditional and Multimedia-Based Instruction groups will be the

very crucial components of gathering data to display results of the study. To

start the gathering of data, the researchers will develop learning plans with

three different topics thatwill include Synonym, Antonym, and Homonym.

When researchers will be done with the learning plans, they will prepare the

Table of Specifications or TOS for the basis of test construction on their

teaching demonstrations. Furthermore, pretest and posttest questionnaires

which has the same content will be eventually prepared made for Traditional

and Multimedia-Based Instruction groups.

Moreover, pairing will be done by this time through the researchers’

decision to divide the 80 Grade 7 students of SNDIS into two sections

according to their 1st gradingin English. To avoid bias and unfair results, the

subjects will be equally divided by their level of intelligences that refers to a

situation of having the same number of smart students to Traditional and

Multimedia-Based Instruction groups. After the pairing, there will be tossing

of the coin to happen. The head will be the first section and will be assigned

as the Multimedia-Based Instruction approach while the tail will be the

second section and to be exposed to the Traditional way of teaching. The

administration of pretestwill be followed. The researchers then will conduct

teaching demonstrations to both groups. One of the two researchers will

represent as the teacher and the other as the observer to both teacher and

students inside the class. After the three days class discussions, the

questionnaire for the posttestwill be administered to the students. Then, there

will be retrieval of the questionnaires which further led to the analysis,

evaluation, and interpretation of the data gathered.
