Podcast Script Guidelines

The document provides guidelines for creating a podcast script including 5 required elements: 1) Introduction, 2) Background Information, 3) Sponsor Break, 4) Interview, and 5) Closing. It offers direction for each element, such as introducing yourselves and the title in the Introduction, using research or different perspectives for the Background Information, transitioning to and from a real or fake sponsor in the Sponsor Break, scripting interview questions but allowing organic answers in the Interview, and thanking listeners and sponsors in the Closing. Sound effects are recommended for the Background Information and Interview sections.

Podcast Script Guidelines

Requirements- These are the things you must include. But the direction you go with
them is completely up to you.

1. Introduction
2. Background Information
3. Sponsor Break (at least one)
4. Interview
5. Closing

Requirement Guidelines- If you’re stuck, I’ve included some direction below for
aspects you can consider while you’re scripting.

Introduction
• Include some introductory music
• Introduce yourselves
• Say the title of your podcast.
• Mention your object

Background Information
• This is where your research will come into play.
• This can come from lots of different points of view, so choose whichever works
best for your particular project.
o The object talking about themselves
o An outside source (Like the phone call in “Ana, Elevator”)
o The interviewer saying something like, “I did some research about you.”
• Be sure to include sound effects here

Sponsor Break
• Start with some music or an introduction to let your listeners know you’re
transitioning from the actual podcast to an ad/sponsor break.
• Choose whatever sponsor you want. It can be real or fake.
• This can be funny or serious.
o Think about the tone you are trying to create with the rest of your
podcast, and choose a sponsor that might help create that tone.
• If you are only doing one, it should probably be in about the middle of your
podcast.
Interview
• Decide who will be taking the role of the interviewer and who will be taking the
role of the object.
• This is where your observations will come into play.
• Make sure the “object” is talking about their life story and what they experience
on a daily basis.
• You don’t have to script the answers to the interview questions.
o Script the questions
o For the answers, the person who is speaking as the object can just have
a general idea of how they’d like to answer, and the conversation can
happen organically
o When you go to record, don’t feel like you have to stick exactly to the
script for this portion. You might have little snippets or side
conversations that become really interesting, and if you don’t, you can
always delete those portions from your audio.
• Be sure to include sound effects here.

Closing
• Pull everything together.
• Say goodbye (however you’d like).
• Thank the listeners and your sponsors.
• Include some outro music.
