Detailed Lesson Plan in Constellation

I. CONTENT STANDARD The learners demonstrate an understanding of: the relationship between
the visible constellations in the sky and Earth’s position along its orbit.

II. CONTENT STANDARD The learners shall be able to: discuss whether or not popular beliefs and
practices with regard to constellations and astrology have scientific basis.

III. LEARNING COMPENTENCY infer the characteristics of stars based on the characteristics of the Sun;
infer that the arrangement of stars in a group (constellation) does not
change.

IV. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES At the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
Discuss on how group the group of stars form a pattern in the sky.
Distinguish the zodiac constellation and some of major constellation.
Form own Constellations.

right?
As a review,
]’ I have prepared an easy activity. You will be
working by group. Our activity is simple quiz

corresponding point. I will read the question Okay Sir
twice and you are given 10 seconds to answer
the question and when I say stop please raise
your board. Is it clear?

System to have one moon.

Motivation
Class I prepared an activity for you. I will
divide you into two groups. As you can see,
there are 6 dots at the left side and another 6
dots at the right side of the board. What you
are going to do is simply
form an imaginary outline or pattern,
representing an animal or any object using
that dots. Yes Sir!
Is it clear?

Lesson proper
Our topic for today is about constellations.
First is we are going to defined what
costellations is.
Ms. Deguzman can you read the meaning of A group of stars that form a pattern in the sky.
constellation?
Alright!
So meaning to say constellation is the group of
stars form an imaginary outline or pattern,
typically representing an animal, mythological
person or creature, a god, or an inanimate
object.
There are a total of 88 constellations—defined
by IAU (International Astronomical Union) in
1928.

The stars in the same constellation are usually

not physically close to each other.

Some constellations can only be seen in

certain seasons. Students will give their different answers
Why?
– Ex. Orion (we can’t see in the
summer because the northern
hemisphere faces Orion during (Students will analyze the picture)

than those in the summer? -The Portion of Sky We See Depends on Where We Are On
(Teacher will explain the diagram) Earth—Northern Hemisphere.

Now Let’s take a look at some constellations!

Now, for a tour of the seven major Cassiopeia Orion
constellations. Cygnus Ursa major
What are those? Scorpius Ursa minor
(Explain the seven major constellation in a Draco
PowerPoint presentation)
Ok, now let’s move on to the Zodiac
Constellation? (Students will give their answer)
(Ask the Students their Zodiac Sign)
Thank you!
Now let’s move on to the Zodiac Constellation
in the celestial bodies.
There are 13 zodiac constellations. Aries Sir!
Can you give me one? Libra Sir!
Good! What else?
Ok!
Mr. Fernandez can you read the 13 1.Capricornus 8. Scorpius
constellation on the Screen? 2. Aquarius 9. Cancer
3. Pisces 10. Leo
4. Aries 11. Virgo
Thank you Mr. Fernandez. 5. Taurus 12. Libra
(Explain the 13 Zodiac Constellation in the 6. Gemini 13. Orphiuchus
screen) 7. Sagittarius
Yes sir!

was very important so that people knew when to
plant and harvest crops.
 Another important use for constellations was
navigation. By finding Ursa Minor it is fairly easy to
spot the North Star (Polaris). Using the height of
the North Star in the sky, navigators could figure
out their latitude helping ships to travel across the
oceans.
B. Generalazation A group of stars that form a pattern in the sky.
Okay class what is Constellation again?
Correct!
How many constellations recognized by IAU There are 88 recognized Constellations Sir.

season?
Good! 13 Zodiac Constellations Sir!
How many Zodiac Constellations are there in
the celestial bodies?
Good!

C. Evaluation
Class please brings out ½ sheet of paper. What
you are going to do is simply construct your
own constellations.

D. Valuing
Okay class. If we connect our discussion in our
personal life What are the lessons that we
could learn??
All your answers are correct! (Students will Give their answers)
Another thing is that like stars in the sky that
have different shapes, distance and very far
from each other but still they are connected in
the form of constellation, as human being
even we have different orientation, culture,
tradition, religion etc. we are all connected.
We cannot leave in our own. We need
someone, we need somebody for us to
survive.

E. Assignment
In your assignment. Enumerate the 88
constellation.
