SYNOPSIS
AQUA MARINE PARK AT MALVAN, MAHARASHTRA
INTRODUCTION:
The role of modern aquariums in society has changed over the years. For decades aquariums
focused on showing a wide variety of exotic animals solely for the recreational pleasure of the
public and were designed accordingly. In the 1960’s this changed into a focus for wildlife
conservation. Parallel to this development in aquariums, zoos and botanic gardens, the
perspective of visitors has also changed during the last decade, from just watching animals
into a more educational fieldtrip. Several studies have demonstrated the positive role played
by zoos and aquariums in relation to conservation knowledge. The principle of aquarium was
fully developed in 1850 by the chemist Robert Warrington, who explained that plants added
to water in a container, would give of enough oxygen to support animals, so long as the
animals did not grow too large. An aquarium is a water filled tank in which fish swim about.
Some aquariums are kept in the home by hobbyists. Also there are larger public aquariums in
many cities which cater the needs of entertainment facilities and house aquatic animals like
otters, sea turtles, sharks, dolphins, etc. in large tanks. Moreover ocean pollution has
increased a lot as those who use the oceans for recreational and commercial purpose and
people who live nearby have also disposed more and more waste there. Hence it is of prime
importance to conserve the marine life and build a research unit that will focus on
conservation of species, thus providing recreational as well as educational facilities.
AIM:
To direct people towards conservation of Marine life and its key role in the ecosystem by
providing a structure, which caters recreational and entertainment activities along with
educational facilities.
OBJECTIVE:
O1: To go through a journey where people will be able to see marine life in its natural habitat
O2: To cater the marine enthusiasts and marine biologists and to educate people not only
about the fishes but also about the amazing flaura and fauna in its natural form.
O3: To increase the tourism in Malvan region, simultaneously generating employment for the
local people.
O4: To create an iconic structure, which will give identity to the place and the function it
METHODOLOGY :
Actual surveys and interaction with the staff members of the aquarium.
Interaction with the experts and plumbing consultants in the field.
Case studies of similar/parallel projects.
Designing will be covering the exteriors and interiors of the complex.
Development of site will be done by incorporating landscape elements and
recreational facilities.
SCOPE OF PROJECT:
India is among the largest peninsulas in the world with water surrounding India from 3 sides,
the Arabian Sea to the west, the Indian Ocean to the south, and the Bay of Bengal to the east.
India has a coastline of 7500 km, apart from this coastline India is well gifted with perennial
water bodies. Indian water is a gold mine for ornamental fish traders with more than 100
varities of species and same for exotic fishes, the flaura found in indian water is largely used
for keeping healthy water environments in aquariums which lead to longer fish life. The rocks
are also widely used for decorating the tanks.
