Mugabe 'the crazy old man'

According to the US diplomatic cables recently revealed by Wikileaks, ANC members gave
confidential information about the inner working of the party to the US government before the
1994 elections. It further revealed that International Relations and Cooperation Minister labeled
Mugabe as “the crazy old man”.
Malawian political system
Malawi has a Presidential system where most of the power is unified in one person. All of the
Malawian Political parties represent the ruling class; none represent the other -much bigger-
segments of society. At the moment no parties with internal democracy exist. All parties are
financed by one rich man, who with his finances keeps tight control over the party. There is no
functioning party apparatus in any of the parties. A party with internal democracy is only
possible if there is no one person holding the financial strings. A democratic party would be
financed by membership fees, and maybe subsidy from government or international donors.

Zimbabwe parties dismiss WikiLeaks

Zimbabwean political parties in a fragile coalition government on Tuesday dismissed WikiLeaks

between rival politicians.

Zimbabwe President Mugabe Accuses ICC of Hypocrisy in Al-Bashir Case

It is not unusual for Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe to lash into Western leaders in his
public interventions, but this week he expanded his field of fire to include the International
Criminal Court which he accused of double standards. Speaking at a summit of African and
European leaders in Tripoli that ended on Tuesday, Mr. Mugabe asked why the ICC was not
bringing charges against former US President George W. Bush and ex-British Prime Minister
Tony Blair for the many civilian lives lost in the invasion of Iraq instead of prosecuting Sudanese
President Omar Al-Bashir for his alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes in western
Darfur region.

Human Rights, Social Issues & Developments

Widening gap between the poor and the rich

Hunger, poverty, disease, ignorance, unemployment, lack of opportunity, inequality, and
hopelessness are the terms that could well define the living conditions of the great majority of
Zambians. According to the executive director of Civil Society for Poverty Reduction, Patrick
Mucheleka, the widening gap between the rich and the poor in Zambia expresses the enormous
evident inequalities existing in the country.

US-Africa Relations

US was against Zim unity govt

In a 2007 report from the US Embassy in Harare, a possible national unity government in
Zimbabwe is described as "less attractive." President Robert Mugabe is called "the devil" and
Morgan Tsvangirai is described as "a flawed figure." Among the 243,270 US State Department
documents released this night by WikiLeaks, is a larger report from outgoing US Ambassador
Christopher Dell, at the time still based in Harare, dated 13 July 2007. Here, "the End" (of the
Mugabe regime) is analysed.

ignorant about economics; Morgan Tsvangirai is indecisive; Arthur Mutambara is a lightweight.

The ANC is proud to be to the best friend forever (BBF) of the Communist Party of China

from Chinese officials on national planning, state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and China's foreign
policy.
