Congratulations! You have been accepted into the PUP Senior High School
Home Economics Strand under the Technical, Vocational and Livelihood
Track. This is the track that helps you earn while you learn.
The Home Economics Strand will provide you training for livelihood and equip
you with employable skills which will help you get a job after graduation.
However, if you opt to enroll in college, you are qualified in any
baccalaureate program of your choice. Specifically, your training prepares
you for the following courses:
Hospitality Management
Tourism Management
Nutrition
Food Technology
Cruise Management
Business Education
Entrepreneurial Management
TVL-HE is designed to develop students’ skills useful for livelihood projects at home. It provides a
curriculum that is a combination of core courses required for all SHS strands and specialized hands-on
courses that meet the standard hour requirement and competency-based assessment of TESDA.
Students in this strand undergo TESDA assessment for National Certifications (NCs) that increase their
employability after graduation from SHS. They can also take degree courses in college especially those
which are related to business, entrepreneurship, culinary arts, hospitality and tourism management,
nutrition, food technology, food management, fashion management, and interior design.
TVL-HE offers three specializations: Bread and Pastry Production, Food and Beverages Service, and
Housekeeping.
The Home Economics track offers various specializations that can lead to livelihood
projects at home. This strand aims to give you job-ready skills that can help you in finding
the right employment.
Subjects in the Home Economics can also lead to National certifications based on TESDA standards. You
will be taking up courses on barbering, bartending, beauty care, bread and pastry, caregiving, cookery,
dressmaking, food and beverage, housekeeping, tourism, handicrafts among others.
There are so many careers that you can explore after taking this strand! You can have a future of
becoming a baker, barista, makeup artist, barber, stylist, therapist, clerk, tailor, tour guide, or
chambermaid. Various business set ups are also into this track like dress shop, beauty salon, coffee shop,
bakery, snack bar, food cart, handicrafts among others.
This strand can also prepare you to college degrees on Hospitality and Tourism Management, Nutrition,
Food Technology, Culinary Arts, Business Education, or Interior Designing.
Home Economics(HE)
This track also invests primarily on skills that can gain you requisite COCs (Certificates of Competency)
and NCs (National Certifications) which would be essential when looking for better career opportunities
in agriculture, electronics, and trade. This is also important when applying abroad where the skills you
gain would prepare you as you join the workforce.
TVL - Home Economics (Cookery) is responsive to the ever-changing market of food, restaurant, and
hotel industries. The growth of food and hospitality industries demand qualified people to
accommodate these needs of customers.
HE - Cookery has specialized subjects that are patterned to the standard requirement and the
competency-based assessment of TESDA so that whoever wishes to work after SHS can be employed in
the food and hospitality industry.

Home Economics provides the student adequate skills and exposure to the work environment learn
many other competencies related to Food and Beverage Services (FBS), Housekeeping and Tourism and
Promotion Services. They are further enriched by the experiences they gained as they go through the
daily grind and routines of their work during their industry immersion. They are exposed to the real
world of work and are offered more opportunities to get acquainted with the nature of their work. The
industry also complements what might have not been addressed in their in-campus training.

of the tracks offered in Senior High School.It focuses on technical skills development in any area. This is
also important when applying abroad where the skills they gain would prepare them as they join the
workforce.

HOME ECONOMICS
The growth of the food, fashion, tourism and hospitality industries demand qualified staff to cater to the
needs of the clientele. Aside from the core subjects required, students who enroll on this strand have
specialized subjects that meet the standard hour requirement and the competency-based assessment of
TESDA so as to increase the employability of the graduate. Being responsive to the ever expanding
market, the following specializations are offered:

3. Fashion Management
Tourism
Entrepreneurship
Teacher Education
Hospitality Management
This subject is probably the first that comes to mind when talking about the TVL track. Students who are
interested in tailoring, food and beverage services, tourism, handicrafts, bread and pastry services,
caregiving, and housekeeping should take this strand.
It should be noted, though, that this is not the correct strand for those who are planning to take Hotel
and Restaurant Management in college. If you are planning on working immediately in the areas
mentioned above after finishing senior high school, then this is the strand for you.
While the ICT strand focuses on technology, the HE strand focuses on livelihood projects such as
caregiving, cookery, bartending, baking, handicraft making, tourism, housekeeping, dressmaking, and
such. This strand will greatly help students find jobs immediately. These are the HE strand specializations
you will get.
