Micro-Teaching Reflection

On April 30, 2020 I conducted my very first micro teaching for Spanish class. At the

beginning of the semester I was somewhat scared to do the micro teaching simply because I

believed that majority of the instructions and majority of the talking had to be done in Spanish.

As a young woman that doesn’t speak Spanish I already felt like this task would be difficult for

me. As the semester progressed and time got closer I began feeling more worried as I knew

micro teaching was approaching and this would either break or make me.

School closed a bit earlier than usual due to outbreaks of the COVID19 in our country.

Which meant that we had to continue our classes online. Believe it or not I was actually hoping

that this meant my micro teaching would have been cancelled, or perhaps I would only have to

submit a lesson plan and my activities I had planned for the lesson but I was wrong. Now I was

tasked with something else, given the circumstances I would have to do my micro teaching

online. This did not sit well with me, I began asking questions, got frustrated, began worrying,

crying, losing sleep all because I felt like this was too much. I kept asking “How will I do this

online if I don’t have experience doing an online class?” I expressed my concerns to my

classmates and soon realized we all had the same concern.

Conducting classes online meant I had to alter my lesson plan, I had to change my

activities to suit the new classroom setting. Given the fact that I could not leave our homes as

freely as I wished I had to work with whatever materials I had at home. I then realized that my

teaching aids had to be small which is strange because normally my teaching aids would be large

in order for everyone to see it in the classroom. Majority, if not all, of my teaching aids were
placed on typing sheets, yes typing sheets. I still managed to make them neat and presentable

regardless of the materials used.

During the micro teaching I must admit I was a bit nervous, my main concern was giving

instructions in Spanish but none the less I tried. What I was most pleased with was the fact that I

had cooperation from my classmates and of course good internet connection. I believe my lesson

went well, except for the activities. My teacher pointed out that I had given the students a little

bit too much time for their activity and majority of them were done before time was up. I was not

able to see the entire class on my screen, only 4 at a time so I was using the four girls as a guide

which later on led to me assume they were not finished. Perhaps if I am given the chance to do

another online class I’ll be sure to find a way to see all my students rather than just a portion, that

way I can tell who is finished and who needs more time etc.

All in all I enjoyed y micro teaching online, the activities went as planned and my

classmates were very cooperative. If I was given the opportunity to choose between an online

class and an actual classroom I would chose an actual classroom simply because I can monitor

students better, walk around, answer questions they may have individually and I could have more

resources available for the students at hand.
