Solving QE (Extracting The Square Roots)
Solving QE (Extracting The Square Roots)
LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
At the end of the class, 100 % of the students should be able to learn 75% of the lesson and be
able to:
solve certain quadratic equations by extracting square roots;
memorize the perfect square whole numbers;
identify the following properties of square roots;
work independently during assessment.
2. Motivation
Pre-Assessment: This warm-up activity will help the students with opportunities to
relate and connect previously learned mathematics concepts (radicals and perfect squares)
to the new lesson, solving quadratic equation by extracting the square roots.
This activity that students will perform is to find the square roots of some numbers.
this lesson had been taken up by the students in their Grade 7 mathematics.
Title: Find My Roots!
Direction: Find the following square roots. Answer the questions that follow.
1. √ 16 6. −√ 289
2. −√ 25 7. √ 0.16
3. √ 49 8. ± √ 36
16
4. √ 121 9.
√ 25
169
5. −√ 64 10. ±
√ 256
B. Presentation: (5 mins)
1. Identify the parts of rational numbers.
2. Differentiate rational from irrational numbers.
3. Give emphasis to the number of square roots a positive or a negative number has.
C. Generalization: (5 mins)
Ask the students about the three properties of solutions or roots when they
extracted quadratic equation. They have to differentiate the three properties or
conditions.
V. ASSIGNMENT:
Notebook:
Give at least 3 quadratic equations which can be solved by extracting the square roots, then
solve.
