Grade 7
I. Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. define solutions;
b. identify the two components of solutions;
c. realize the importance of properties of solution.
II. Subject Matter
a. Topic: Solutions
b. References: Learner’s Module for grade 7 (pp. 5-19)
Teachers Guide for grade 7 (pp. 7-18)
Science Links (work text for scientific and technological literacy) pp. 50-51
III. Procedure:
a. Daily Routine
b. Pre activity
- Review
o What are the safety precaution in the Laboratory.
- Motivation
o Ask the students an example of solutions found in their home?
c. Activity Proper
- Describe the observable characteristics or properties of common solutions found at home or in
stores.
d. Post Activity
1. Analysis and Discussion
- What are the two components of solutions?
- How are they related to each other?
- Give examples of naturally occurring solutions.
- Do you think useful solutions found only in nature?
- What are the manufactured/processed solutions?
- Do we usually use these solutions in our everyday living?
e. Synthesis
- Solution is an act or the process by which a solid, liquid, or gaseous substance is homogenously
mixed with a liquid or sometimes a gas or solid. It is also the condition of being dissolved. The
solutions that you have observed consist of two components called the solvent and the solute. The
solute and the solvent dissolve in each other. Usually the solvent is the component present in
greater amount. So in a sugar solution, sugar is the solute and water is the solvent. In addition,
solutions may either be found in nature or are manufactured. Examples of solutions that occur
naturally are natural bodies of water like the seas and ocean, blood plasma, air, and some mineral
ores. Gasoline is a solution and it is an example of manufactured solutions.
f. Valuing
- What are the importance of properties of solution in our daily living?
IV. Evaluation:
Matching type A B
1. Soluble a. A term use for the substance that does
2. Solution not dissolve in a solvent.
3. Solute b. These are the substance which are
4. Solvent dissolved in the solvent.
5. insoluble c. It is an act or the process by which a
solid, liquid, or gaseous substance is
homogenously mixed with a liquid or
sometimes a gas or solid.
d. A term use for the substance that
dissolves readily in a solvent.
e. The liquid substance that makes up the
bulk of solution.
V. Assignment:
- Bring out the following for our activity tomorrow.
7 teaspoons iodized salt
7 teaspoons flour
7 teaspoon powdered juice (any)
