Gauge Pig Insertion - Risk of Damage

1) The bi-di pig is inserted into the test header in the reverse direction using a reduction with an open cut on the upper side. 2) During pig insertion, the valves in the test header must be fully open to allow the pig to enter and release air. 3) As the pig enters the test header, the sealing discs fold and bend to accommodate the smaller internal diameter, pressing against the gauging plate.

Inserting a bi-di pig into a test header:

The pig is inserted in the reverse direction with the help of a reduction that has an open cut on the upper side,
Normally, the calibration plate is installed in front of the rear sealing discs,
Sealing discs have a diameter of approximately 1 inch greater than the internal diameter of the pipeline,
Guide discs are slightly smaller in diameter than the pipe ID; it is just guide the pig but doesn´t seal.
Usually the test head pipe has thicker walls than the pipeline pipe, so the seal discs go too tight into the test header,
During pig insertion, the valves in the test head must be fully open to release air and allow the pig to enter,
Detail 1) the first sealing disc begin to enter the test header, its flexible edge bends to accommodate the ID of the test header,
Detail 2) The second sealing disc folds upon entering the test head and starts pressing against the calibration plate.
The first sealant disc is already inside the test header with its outer edge folded,
Detail 3) Both rear seal discs are already inside the test head, the gauge plate is bent around its outer edge.

Someone smart might think about placing the calibration plate behind the front sealing discs, but during the run the
front sealing discs also fold back for a similar result.
