LEARNING PLAN IN SCIENCE 5

Plan 26

Content: Parts and functions

Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of how animals
reproduce.
Learning Competency: Describe the different modes of reproduction in animals such
as butterflies, mosquitoes, frogs, cats and dogs.
Code: S5LT – IIe – 5
I. Objective: Describe the stages of development of animals that undergo
incomplete metamorphosis.

II. Subject Matter: Metamorphosis.

A. Science Concept/Ideas
 Incomplete metamorphosis is a type of metamorphosis in which an
insect hatches from an egg and then goes through several nymphal
stages. Each nymphal stage looks like a small version of the adult but
getting slightly bigger with age. At the final nymphal stage the insect
then moults into the adult form. The adult form is often only
distinguishable from the nymph by size and the presence of wings.
 Egg – unborn stage
 Nymph – most of the feeding happened. Often already look
like with the adult. Mobile as the adult but they can’t fly.
 Adult – final and breeding stage. Animals in this stage are
ready to mate and reproduce their own kind.

Parts of Plants Description

1. ROOTS Holds the plants in place, it
absorbs water and minerals
in the soil
Some roots are big and long,
it extends deep into the
ground (trees such as
mango, narra, acacia,
molave etc.)
Some plants have smaller
and shorter roots than those
of trees ( ex. Santan, daisy ,
cosmos, rose etc.)
Some plants have big thick
roots, tiny roots are found in
the big root, these big roots
are called storage root (ex.
Carrot, camote, radish,
potatoes etc.)
2. STEM Supports the plant, some
extends out to support the
leaves
It brings water and nutrients
taken by the roots from the

soil to other parts of the

plants, it also takes food from
the leaves to other parts of
the plants
Some plants have big stems
in shape of a cylinder, they
are big and rough (Ex. trees
such as mango, narra,
acacia, molave etc.)
Some have straight and
smooth stems such as
banana and abaca
Some are small (shrubs;
gumamela, rose, eggplant
etc.)
Some plants have climbing
stems like squash,
ampalaya, upo etc.
Some grow under theground,
these are called underground
stems like those of ginger,
onion, camote, potatoes etc.
3. LEAVES Manufacture food for the
plants
Leaves differ in shape, size,
color, texture and edge
There are rounded, hand
shaped and feather shaped
leaves.
Not all leaves are green
There are smooth, hairy and
rough leaves
Others have toothed edge
4. FLOWERS The reproductive structure of
the plants
Flower differ in number of
petals, shape, size, color and
smell
Not all plants bear flowers
5. FRUITS Contain seeds and the start
of new plants
They differ in shape, size,
color and texture
