1. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course covers the requirements of Table A-111/1.F3.C2 of the STCW ’78, as amended.

2. COURSE OBJECTIVES (INTENDED OUTCOMES):


CO1: Draw sketches of shipboard machinery parts using standard symbols
CO2: Interpret engineering drawings in accordance with the machinery manual to identify components that that will be
requested for maintenance and repair.
CO3: Interpret the following E/R piping diagrams:
a. Seawater cooling system
b. Freshwater cooling system
c. Fuel oil system
d. Lubricating oil system
e. Exhaust gas system
f. main engine and Generator engine fuel oil purification system
g. General seawater service and ballast system
h. Service air system
i. Starting air system
CO4: Interpret the drawing and symbol of M/E Pneumatic maneuvering system diagram
CO5: Interpret the drawing and symbol of Steering Gear Electro-hydraulic system diagram

3. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
This course will be delivered in a Flexible Learning Mode, mainly through Asynchronous (Self-Paced) Learning and
Synchronous Physical (Face to Face) and/or Online Instructions. The JBLFMU Learning Management System (LMS) will
principally be anchored on MOODLE and on ZOOM for virtual (online) classes.

For online instructions, you will use your JBLFMU Student Account Username and Password to login to
the course from the ________ Login Page. If you have not activated your JBLFMU Student account, please visit the
__________ page to do so.

Learning activities will consist of chat, blogs, discussion forums, email, web posting. You will need access to the Internet
to download course materials, access linked video, power points and other instructional materials on Youtube and other
designated internet channels. While an android phone or tablet is adequate, a personal computer or laptop is recommended
but not necessary.

4. ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE
This Course is delivered on an alternating 2-week Module schedule (a) physical (face to face) classroom or Virtual (online
through) Zoom; and (b) self-paced but with fixed dates for required ACTIVITIES and PERIODIC EXAMINATIONS. The
final examination and date of submission of all requirements shall be the designated last day of the 1 st Semester SY 2020 –
2021.

The Course is divided into nine (15) modules (representing a four-week residential study of 15 hours) which is
recommended for the student to dedicate at least 1 hour of study each module. To instill study discipline, each module
culminates with a submitted activity (drawing plates, work output, assessment, etc.)

6. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES


Classroom and Virtual Class Attendance and Participation:
A students should not be absent for more than 20% of the stipulated number of hours of recitation, lecture, laboratory or
any other schedule for work.

Discipline:
The student shall comply with the rules, regulations and instructions set by the school authorities

Academic Honesty and Authentication:

Gadget Policy:
The use of cell phones, tablets or other similar electronic/ communication gadgets inside the classroom while classes,
examination or other academic activities are going on is not allowed, unless authorized by the teacher to aid instruction.

Students’ outputs shall be accomplished as specified by respective subject teacher.
Academic Consultation:
Students needing academic assistance can avail of the academic counseling and other mentoring programs. Referral system
is course through Student Affairs Services (SASZZZZ) by the subject teacher.
