Four Laning of Km 0+500 to Km 52+700 Kolaghat-Haldia Section NH-41 in the State of

West Bengal : Balance Work, and Improvement of HPL Link Road at Haldia (WB)
from Ch. 0+150 to Km 6+275

METHODOLOGY FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CULVERT

1. After taking OGL jointly with engineer, construction drawing will be prepared and got approved from
the Engineer.
2. Before starting the actual construction work of the culvert, layout will be marked for approval of
Engineer’s representative.
3. After approval of Engineer’s representative, excavation for foundation will be started by means of
JCB and the trenches will be cleared of all vegetation and impurities.
4. Foundation soil will be compacted before placement of plain cement concrete.
5. Concrete mix design will be submitted and got approved prior to placement of concrete.
6. Plain Cement Concrete will be laid in desired thickness with approval of Engineer’s representative.
7. Shifting of steel after cutting, bending in steelyard will be done as per approved Bar Bending
Schedule at site. Fixing of steel for Raft and Wall will be done as per approved drawings. Fixing of
shuttering of standard sizes for Raft will be started as per approved drawings.
8. After getting the approval from the Engineer’s representative for shuttering and reinforcement,
Concrete produced in Batching Plant will be placed by means of chute/manually/concrete pump as
per available site conditions.
9. Similarly for casting the Wall, Deck slab, Head wall and wing wall same sequence will be followed, as
per step (5) & (6) as well as necessary quality control tests will be conducted regularly with
Engineer’s representative as specified in the contract.
10. Appropriate curing arrangements will be done.
11. Quality of finishes will be maintained as per specification, any damage or poor surface will be made
up by standard repair procedures.
12. Following points will be kept in mind while Back filling CD :
a) Only approved backfill material will be used.
b) Unless directed otherwise, the filling around culvert will not be less than twice the height
of road from back of structure or as per approved drawing.
c) Structure back fill will be laid in steps to ensure better bound between existing roads
embankment. The minimum offset will not be less than 250mm on every 1m height of
embankment filled.
d) The field compaction will be achieved equivalent to adjacent embankment / Subgrade
layer.
e) The maximum compacted thickness of layers shall not be more than 200mm or less than
100mm
f) Field compaction of back fill up to natural ground level shall not be less than 85%, using
local material as approved by Engineer.

13. Resources deployed for dismantling and construction of culvert are as follows:
Equipments:
1. Compressor 1 nos
2. Pavement Breaker 1 nos
3. Concrete Pump 1 no (If required)

5. Cutting set 1 nos.
6. Vibrator 3 nos
7. Needles 6 nos
8. Dumper 2 nos
11. Tractor 1 no
12. Bar Cutting m/c 1 no
13. Bar Bending m/c 1 no
14. Water Tanker 1 no

Manpower:
1. Construction Manager 1 no.
2. Engineer 2 nos.
3. Quality Control 1 no.
4. Supervisor 3 nos.
5. Operator/Driver 15 nos.
6. Skilled Labour 60 nos.
7. Unskilled Labour 100 nos.

Materials:
All materials i.e.; cement, reinforcement etc will be used after prior approval of
Engineer’s representative.
