4.0 Design of Components:

4.1 Design of Stem:

1.2 At base:

Net height of fill on the heel = = 0.50 m

Moment due to Surcharge = (Ka x  x he) x H x (H/2) = 0.84 KNm


Moment due to Soil = 0.5 x (Ka x  x H) x H x (0.42xH) = 0.15 KNm

Total Moment = 0.84 + 0.15 = 0.99 KNm

Effective depth required d req = (M / (Q x b))^0.5 = 39 mm


Effective depth provided d prov = 100 - 50 - 4 = 46 mm

Main (Vertical) Reinforcement:
Area of steel required Ast = M / (st x j x d) = 97 mm^2
Minimum area of steel req Ast = 0.12 x b x d = 120 mm^2

Provide 8mm + 0mm  bars @ 200mm c/c on earth face. Ast = 252 mm^2 > 120
Provide 10mm + 0mm  bars @ 200mm c/c on other face. Ast = 393 mm^2 > 60

Distribution (Horizontal) Reinforcement:

As no vertical load is coming on the median wall, considering the same effect as base of wall at the face of bottome slab.

Span moments = 0.23 t.m
