    HINILAWOD

    Chanting epic is a traditional practice in the heart of the island of Panay and one of these is the

    Sulod epic of Hinilawod. It is an epic poem that generally called the "Tales from the Mouth of

    Halawod River.” It is all about the three demigods brothers the children of Alunsina and Datu

    Paubari which they settled on the mouth of the Halawod River. The three demigods brothers are

    Labaw Donggon, Humadapnon, and Dumalapdap. They are strong young handsome men who

    travelled to look for their future wives. They have to go through challenges each path. They only

    have to win every fight so that they can get want they want. The three bravery demigods are

    inspirational because what is giving up, when you didn’t even try it or tried your best.

    Moreover, the bond of this family was strong because on what happened to Labaw Donggon, he

    got imprisoned on Saragnayan’s home, who is one of his contenders. He got rescued by his son

    Abyang Baranugon then Humadapnon which is his brother got him revenge to all Saragnayan’s

    relatives and followers. And when the three demigods had their spouses, they all got reunited and

    decided to separate ways in different parts of the world because it’s the time that they know that

    they can do it and be independent on their own.


    HINILAWOD 2

    Hinilawod is about what we may encounter at any time. We are not growing if we do not face

    our problems every day. How do we survive and how strong we are when there is no one around

    to help us. It is about maturity even the two brothers had 2-3 wives because that is the time that

    there is no one going to judge you, that is the way they used to. But this time, simple mistakes

    you make, they estimate you even they don’t know the whole story. So now, many people are

    just scared to make mistakes because many people feel that they were not allowed to have

    imperfections in life. So, I might say that in the past the people have the freedom and now maybe

    there is still, the way we are facing right now is just a big difference before.

    As I have mentioned this epic poem has a strong bond on their family. It brings us a lesson to be

    more caring and to have an interest to our family members not because his/her is a firm person

    that does not mean that he/she can do it alone be more observative or pay attention to them all

    the time and make them feel that they are loved.

    Furthermore, it valued me because it brings lessons. First bravery, we need it on our lives

    because if we are not brave enough to face our problems, struggles and sufferings in life were not

    going to overcome it. Second, take care of your family members as I said we should watch more

    the action that our family act. Lastly, always accept being lost or being failed at some point if

    you don't fall and keep on achieving something when your time comes that you be able to break

    down it's hard to accept and to get up or rise again because you didn't use to. So learn to admit or

    accept every failure we faced. We should not blame ourselves from our mistakes because we

    learned from it.


    HINILAWOD 3

    The differences of before and now is a lot, because before they beg for the hands of the girl they

    want to marry. They will fight and do something hard or have to suffer first so they can please

    the parents of the woman but is not the thing now still, some is doing it but not at all. Now it is

    more on if you have a stable job and you like the girl and you have the consent of the parents of

    the person you like there's a chance the two of you will get married.

    To conclude I personally like this epic story because literally I am the type of person that give up

    easily, this makes me think that we should try our best so we will not regret it after.
