CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION
Cooking skills expertise one’s professionalism in cooking and serving foods. Those preparations may
relate to a lack of time to plan and prepare meals. Cooking is a valuable life skill which is often linked with the
proper manners doing in everyday life but some people do not find cooking as a special ability to grow as an
individual. Proper cooking etiquette is one part of cooking skills which is observable especially when someone is
around, therefore, a person who cooks should always consider these things with or without audience watching
over them. There are techniques how to develop skills related to cooking in order to overcome the problem on
lack of cooking skills and food preparation knowledge as barriers. The goal of these techniques is to have an
enhancement to those who are getting involved in cooking difficulties.
Many problems in cooking caught our attention that are usually recognize in culinary courses, such as lack
of ability to cook and prepare foods, cooking difficulties, inadequate time and improper behavior in cooking.
Hence, these studies want to help others to overcome cooking problems and to improve their capability in
cooking.
The purpose of this study is to give an idea about the techniques how to enhance skills and have a proper
manner in cooking. This intends to have a clear understanding why people should need to increase their ability to
be proper in cooking. It aims to have dissemination of knowledge about the cookery manners and artistry used by
the cookery students. This research is very important because it is about the techniques in enhancing cooking
skills which are reliable and consistent way for cooking development. This study can help to solve the problem by
spreading the findings to all who want to improve their skills in cooking and preparing foods.
As a students and as researchers, this study will be helpful to be more knowledgeable about the
enhancement of cooking skills. This study also helps the researchers to learn basic things in doing research that
includes one’s understanding and how to have good socialization to others in finishing the research. This study
gives experience on how to do inquiry that is able to collect and gather information with an effort.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY


This study was conducted to benefit people wanting to develop their cooking skills. The common
techniques by the former cookery students will be spread to help those people who are getting hard in cooking.
Especially, to those who really need to enhance their skills and proper way in cooking. The findings in this study
will be significant to the following:
To the researchers, this study will be very significant because the researchers will be able to determine the
common techniques in enhancing cooking skills of the cookery students students in Gumaca National High
School.
To the students, they can use the findings about the common techniques in cooking skills if they are
interested in cooking, especially, to the students who are involved in any kind of cooking activities.
To the future researchers, this research will be significant to them to use as their guide or reference if they
will be conducting similar study.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY


This study aims to determine the common techniques in enhancing cooking skills of grade 10 cookery
students in Gumaca National High School. Especially, it sought to answer the following problems:
1. To determine the easy, proper and effective ways in cooking, preparing, and behaving
while doing the activity.
2. To find out the strengths and weaknesses in doing cooking activities of former cookery students in
Gumaca National High School.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY


This study is focused only on the common techniques in enhancing cooking skills of former cookery
students in Gumaca National High School.
This research is all about knowing the common techniques that help to enhance the cooking skills.
Knowing that this study only includes the knowledge and manners about cooking skills that will surely help the
students wanting to have development of their cooking skills. It is stated here in the research paper why the
cooking abilities needed to improve and how the techniques of former cookery students that will be determined
can help one’s cooking development.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
These definitions of terms will help the readers to better understand the meaning of words that are not
clearly defined these terminologies are conceptually and operationally defined.
Cookery- an art or practice of study in cooking.
Cooking Etiquette- refers to the respect being shown at all times in cooking of whenever in a kitchen.
Cookery Students- refers to the students who studies and participates in cooking activities.
Cooking Development- refers to the process of improvement and enhancement of skills in cooking.
Cooking Skills- refers to the ability in cooking that comes from training, experience or and uses one’s knowledge
effectively in cooking performance.
Common Techniques- refers to the simple ways of doing something by using special knowledge.
GNHS- stands for Gumaca National High School, a school located in Brgy. Mabini, Gumaca, Quezon.
Goal- refers to what is trying to do or achieve and the purpose of it.
Good Socialization- proper and acceptable way of fitting in and behaving in an environment.
Inadequate Time- insufficient or have not enough time in doing something.
