Many e commerce giants are laying off employee to reduce their costs. The spike in the
demand for online shopping forced Amazon to recruit around 100,000 full and part time roles
across Amazons fulfillments centers and delivery networks. Company had also announced
that it would increase the pay by $2 per hour thorough out April. This decision costs about
$350 million increase in the compensation for hourly employees across US, Canada and
European countries. Amazon US has already announced all the associates with in operation
and delivery network will receive double the pay for every overtime work worked in
workweek from May 15, 2020.
Amazon is taking stringent measures to ensure the safety of employees at the delivery
centers. They have increased the frequency of cleaning at all frequently used sites. These
include regular sanitization of door handles, hand rails, touch screens and frequently touched
areas. It is encouraging individuals with flu like symptoms to stay home with pay for 14 days
of self-quarantine.
These steps are taken by Amazon to increase the morale of their employees during lockdown
as employee management is another important aspect of effective supply chain management.
