1 Introduction
1.1 Objective of the Manual

In general, the faults occurring in a BTSE are reported to the OMC via fault reports.
These are based on system-integrated routine tests which continually check the function
of all subsystems. In most cases, suspected modules can be replaced according to the
procedures of the maintenance manual and regarding the fault reports.
In rare cases where exchanging of modules doesn’t clear the fault, parts of the system
can also be replaced but only by dismantling components that requires considerably
more effort than simple module replacement.
The aim of this manual is to describe where these parts are located and to show in detail
how to replace a part.

Restriction
Only the actual exchange procedures are described in this manual and not the instruc-
tions for fault location nor the following test procedures.

1.2 Target Group

This manual is intended for the use by TAC2 and TAC3 personnel only. Only trained and
qualified personnel are allowed to carry out nonstandard maintenance tasks.

1.3 Parts that can be Replaced

The parts that can be exchanged are restricted to those listed in the Main Construction
Catalog (MCC) which can be viewed via Siemens Intranet and IMS.

1.4 Quality and Tools

All tasks must be carried out thoroughly. Cleanliness and care are of the utmost impor-
tance. Precautions must be taken to protect the equipment against dust, mud and mois-
ture of any kind.
Only parts that require no calibration or extensive tests after replacement can be ex-
changed.
Tools must be of a high quality as listed in the table of “Tools and Test equipment
D900/D1800/PCS1900” (A30862-X390-A101-*-7618) which can be viewed via IMS in
the Siemens Intranet. Special tools may be necessary, e.g. Allen wrench with a hole in
the centre for releasing external screws. For convenience, a power-driven screwdriver
can save time when removing large numbers of screws.

1.5 Hazards and Safety

Elevated voltages are inevitable at certain points of this electrical equipment. Some of
the parts may also have elevated operating temperatures. Exposed sharp edges
present a danger of injury.
The following warnings appear in the relevant procedures where necessary:
Elevated voltages are present at specific points.
!

Some parts may have elevated operating temperatures.

!

Sharp edges. Handle with particular care to prevent injury or use hand protection.
!

Rotating parts may continue to rotate for a few seconds after being removed.
!

When replacing components of the AC circuit, make sure, that the AC power supply to
the shelter is switched off and cannot be switched on again inadvertently.
Non-observance of these conditions and safety instructions can result in personal injury
or damage to property.
It is highly advisable to carry out all tasks with the assistance of a second person for
moving heavy parts and for safety reasons in the event of an accident.

2.1 Opening and Closing the Door

The BS 20 has a door providing access to all components located in the frame and in
the door itself. The door is mounted on hinges located on the left edge of the shelter.
The door is locked by either two or three door locks. The joint between the shelter and
the door is sealed by an EMC sealing.
The following procedure also applies to the locking mechanism of the shelter base.
i The shelter base is available in many variants which are not explicitly described here.

Do not jam cables and wires when closing the cover.

!

1 Opening the Door

1. unlock both door locks as follows:

– insert the key into the cylinder (1), turn the key 45˚ clockwise and push the
key to the left until the locking (2) jumps out
– turn the key 45˚ counterclockwise

2. (optional) unlock the door handle as follows:

– insert the key into the cylinder (5) and turn the key 45˚ clockwise
– pull the door handle (4) out of the rest (3) and swivel it to the left

2.10 Replacing the Temperature Switches

The BS 20 comprises two temperature switches which are located under the combiner.
The combiner can either be a HYCOM2G, DUKIT or DUPL20R module.
This procedure also describes the replacement of the HYCOM2G module which also
i applies to the replacement of the DUKIT and DUPL20R modules. Replacing the DU-
KIT or DUPL20R modules differs in certain steps from the replacement of the
HYCOM2G module.

Elevated voltages are present at specific points.
