ELECTRICAL
MACHINES
INSTRUCTIONAL MODULE

I. Electrical Machines
II. Overview
A. Introduction
This course introduces the concepts of Alternating Current and Direct
Current machines. It deals with the operating principles of transformers, motors,
generators and the concept of power transmission their associated controls and
maintenance of this equipment. It also includes the study of their construction
features, connections, characteristics and their type of applications. In this
module many illustrations and photographs help provide technical understanding
and provide real-world references. This type of explanation and application better
provide students to perform effectively on the job in installing, troubleshooting,
repairing, and servicing electrical motors, reflecting the current needs of the
industry.

B. Objectives

1. Provide students with a strong foundation in the traditional and modern areas of
electrical technology.

2. Educate students in science and technology so that they can identify, understand
and solve technological problems.

3. Provide students with knowledge and opportunity which prepare them for
practice to pursue further education at the graduate level.

4. Provide students with a breadth of knowledge in social and humanitarian issues

5. Enable students to develop their self-confidence in handling electrical problems

6. Ensure learners to have a broad-based approach of the different types of motors.
