Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

INTRODUCTION

Rationale

Man’s fight against disease carrying mosquitoes has been going on for quite a
long time. Although very small and vulnerable, mosquitoes have been causing a lot of
trouble. To control this threat chemicals have been introduced. However the residual
effect left by these chemicals created some harm to man, that government authorities
now regulate their use of such chemicals. Even with these chemicals, Some mosquitoes
became resistant to chemicals too.

Nowadays, more people are finding more alternative ways to control

mosquitoes. One such alternative is by biological means. It is well-known that all

mosquitoes hum or buzz like bees but at a different frequency. The hum of mosquitoes,

however, is audible only when they get close to our ear. Then, there’s the fact unknown

to most people, that only female mosquitoes sting and when they are pregnant they

avoid their male counterparts so one biological control against mosquitoes that bite is to

catch male mosquitoes and confine them in a bedroom. Unfortunately, this is not easy

to do. It’s quite difficult to distinguish male and female mosquitoes.

In 2019, the Department of Health, (DOH) reported that the Philippines has

the most number of dengue cases in South East Asia. The health of every Filipino is

now alarming because of the continuous increase of dengue cases. In this modern
world, the researcher will develope a technology that will eventually secure the health

and stop the

increasing cases of dengue. This is called the Mosquito Pester. Mosquito Pester is a

kind of technology that will surely be useful and have good effects in our society. The

Mosquito Pester works by imitating the sound of a male mosquito. The sound produced

by the Mosquito Pester keeps the female mosquitoes away. The Mosquito Pester runs

for at least 24 hours which ensures the convenience and efficiency of this product.

Review of Related Literature

Electronics comprises the physics, engineering, technology and applications that

deal with the emission, flow and control of electrons in vacuum and matter. Electronic is

widely used in information processing, telecommunication and signal processing the

ability of electronic devices to act as switches makes digital information processing

possible. Interconnection technologies such as circuit boards, electronics packaging

technology, and other varied forms of communication infrastructure complete circuit

formality and transform the mixed electronic system.

Today, dengue cases are increasing and the DOH reminds the public to do the 4-

S against Dengue, Mosquitoes, Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, fever,

dengue fever and to practice the 4-S against dengue. Dengue, now a year-round

disease, is an acute viral infection that effects mostly young children and infants. The

enhanced

4-S campaign stands for search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, secure self-

protection measures like wearing long pants and long sleeve shirts and use of mosquito

pester. The Department of Health (DOH) urged the public to practice what it called the

4 o’clock habit to help bring down cases of the deadly dengue fever, which is expected

to surge during the rainy season.

Ultrasonic Pest Repeller are used as substitute for mosquito coils and liquids to

avoid inhaling of toxic fumes. It is the non-toxic way to repel pest like mosquitoes. This

article describes the relationship between Ultrasonic and insects. US pest chasers are

designed to repel pest from the home. Rodents responds to us with a frequency around

60 khz. insects like mosquito respond to 38-44 khz.

further study and create an enhance innovation of Mosquito Pester.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

DESIGN
In this study, the descriptive research design was used by the researchers.

They evaluated the performance and the acceptability level of the new Mosquito Pester.

To assess the performance of the newly-designed product, an observation guide was

used.

Survey were utilized as a data-gathering research instrument to assess the

acceptability level of the device. The findings were used as basis for conclusion and

recommendation.

Environment and Participants

The study was conducted at San Roque National High School, Alburquerque,

Bohol. School Year 2019- 2020. The respondents of this study were the Grade 12

Electronic students. We chose Grade 12 students because they are easily accessible

and can provide useful information about the research study.

Instruments

The researchers used experimental method in conducting the research study.

Survey Questionnaire were used as a data gathering tool in the research study. It

consists of questions to be answered and with corresponding ratings for assessment

and evaluation of the performance of the proposed device. These were given to the

respondent after testing the performance of the device to determine its acceptability

level. Observation guides were included in the traits that the researchers undertook to

ensure the validity of the device.

After the results were gathered, the validity and reliability of the efficiency of the

equipment were determined through analysis and interpretation with the use of

statistical treatment.

Data Gathering Procedure

A written request to conduct study was sent to the school principal. Upon

approval, a letter was submitted to the class advisers for the conduct of the study. Upon

the receipt of the approval, the questionnaires were personally administered by the

researchers to the respondents.

Statistical Treatment
In the analysis and interpretation of the collected data different statistical tools

were used.

To determine the acceptability level of the new product in the different aspects,

the statistical tool used was Slovin's Formula

N
Formula: n=
1+ N e 2

Where:

n= Sample Size

11

N= total number of students

e= Allowable sampling error (0.5)

A Percentage distribution is a display of data that specifies the percentage of

observations that exist for each data point or grouping of data points. It is particularly

useful method of expressing the relative frequency of survey responses and other data.

The data was gathered, tallied and will be analyzed.

%= f/n × 100

Where:

%= Percentage

f= Frequency
n= No. Of responses

Weighted Mean. This method is used to measure the central tendency.

To determine mean of the Mosquito Pester. The researchers will use this

formula:

Fx
WM=∑
