Communication Strategy
● It is a well-planned series of actions aimed at
achieving certain objectives through the use of
communication methods, techniques and
approaches.

● It serves as a blueprint in expressing information


related to a specific event, situation or audience to
the parties involved in the communication
situation.
NOMINATION
● It is the strategy that a speaker uses to invite
other participants in a communication
situation.

● The speaker attempts to collaborate or


participate by opening a topic or by tasking his
or her fellow participants to communicate and
share their ideas about a certain topic.
● “What about you?”
● “Would you like to
try answering?”
● “Do you have anything to say?
● “Did you catch the latest episode of
our favorite TV show?”
● “Now, it’s your turn. Let us hear
from you.”
● “Does that make sense to you?”
RESTRICTION
● It refers to the limitations that you
have as a speaker.
● These are set by people who have
power in communication situation.
● Parents at home.
● Teacher in the classroom
● Principal or administrator
of a school
● Barangay captain in your
community

TURN-TAKING
It pertains to the order by which
people who engage in a
conversation speak.
● “Let me finish!”
● “I’m not yet finished!”
TOPIC CONTROL
It is the strategy that limits the coverage of a
discussion or conversation to things that are
acceptable to the people involved in the
communication process.
● This might not be the best venue for
such a discussion…
● Perhaps that is an issue for another
discussion…
● Let’s not talk about that right now…
● Maybe we should reserve that topic
for another time…
● This is not the right time to talk
about that.
TOPIC SHIFTING
● It is the strategy that requires listening
intently to the person or people you are
conserving with.
● It applies when you want a more
interesting or more pleasant topic to talk
about instead.
● “Well, in other new…”
● “By the way…”
● “Since you mentioned that…”
● “I know this is off-topic, but I
have to ask/ say…”
● “Before I forget.”
REPAIR
● It is the communication strategy for recouping
lost rapport between or among communicators
in a conversation.

● It is also done when a mistake is committed,


such as mispronouncing a word or using the
wrong term.
“SORRY”
● “That came out wrong… let me
rephrase that…”
● “I’m sorry, I take that back…”
● “Let me clarify that..”
● “Actually, it’s ..(correct term/
pronunciation)
● “My bad, I meant to say (correct
term/ pronunciation)
TERMINATION
● It is ending an interaction to avoid
conflicts or diffuse arguments.
● “Nevermind, it doesn’t matter. Let’s not
talk about it anymore:.
● “I’m sorry, I’m not comfortable talking
about this”.
● “I wish I could stay and talk more, but I
have to go.”
● “It’s been great talking to you, but I’m
afraid I have to go.”
● “Excuse me, but I really need to get going.
Let’s talk again soon.”
