Arellano University Elementary Department MODULE 2-Lesson 2.1: Pitch
ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT
Objectives:
1. Identify the pitch of a tone.
2. Relate movements with levels of pitch.
3. Appreciate the correct pitch of tones with the voice and with an instrument.
Melody is the arrangement of musical tones of different pitches that form a pleasing tune. Melody is the most
remembered element of music. Each tone you hear in music has a pitch. Pitch is the highness and lowness of sound.
Pitches may be low, medium or high.
Aside from hearing music, you can also read and write with the help of musical symbols. One of the most important
musical symbols is the staff.
A staff is a musical symbol with five lines and four spaces. We always begin counting from the bottom. The staff is where
all musical symbols are written.
Each line and space has a letter name. These are the first seven letters we borrowed from the alphabet. The letters
names of the lines of the staff can be memorized through a sentence code Every Good Boy Does Fine.
