required to complete 50% of the same reaction ?

18. In the first order reaction, half of the reaction is completed in 100 seconds. What
is the time for 99% of the reaction to occur ?

19. For a reaction A + 2 B → C, what is the amount of C formed by starting the


reaction with 5 moles of A and 8 moles of B ?

20. In a first order reaction, the concentration of the reactant decreases from 0.6 M
to 0.3 M in 30 minutes. Calculate the time taken for the concentration to change from
0.1 M to 0.025 M .

? What is the co-ordination number of P and Q ?
25. Calculate the percentage composition in terms of mass of a solution obtained by
mixing 300 g of a 25 % and 400 g of a 40 % solution by mass.

26. State Henry’s law and mention some of its important applications.

27. Define conductivity and molar conductivity for the solution of an electrolyte.
Discuss their variation with concentration.

28. The conductivity of 0.20 m solution of KCl at 298 K is 0.0248 S cm-1. Calculate
its molar conductivity.

29. From the rate expression for the following reactions determine the order of the
reaction and the dimensions of the rate constant.

(a) 3NO(g) → N2O(g) + NO2(g) ; Rate = k [NO]2

(b) CH3CHO(g) → CH4(g) + CO(g) ; Rate = k [CH3CHO]3/2

30. The rate of decomposition of NH3 on platinum surface is zero order. What are
rate of production of N2 and H2 if k = 2.5 x 10-4 Ms-1?

31. Classify each of the following solids as ionic, metallic, molecular, net

32. The vapour pressure of water is 12.3 kPa at 300K. Calculate the vapour pressure
of 1 molal solution in it.

33. Calculate the amount of benzoic acid (C6H5COOH) required for preparing 250
mL of 0.15 M solution in methanol.
34. Arrange the following metals in the order in which they displace each other from
their salts.
Al, Cu, Fe, Cu
35. Given the standard electrode potentials

K+/K = - 2.93 V , Ag+/Ag = 0.80 V

H2+/Hg = 0.79 V ; Mg2+/Mg = -2.37 V , Cr3+/Cr = - 0.74 V


Arrange these metals in increasing order of their reducing power.

36. Depict the galvanic cell in which the reaction

Zn(s) + 2Ag+(aq) → Zn2+(aq) + 2Ag(s) takes place. Further show :

(i) which electrode is negatively charged ?

(ii) the carriers of the current in the cell.

(iii) individual reaction at each electrode.

38. How much charge is required for the reduction of :

(i) 1 mol of Al3+ to Al (ii) 1 mol of Cu2+ to Cu (iii) 1 mol of MnO4- to Mn2+

39. A first order reaction takes 40 minutes for 30% decomposition. Calculate its half
life period.

40. The rate of a particular reaction quadruples when the temperature changes from
293 K to 313 K. Calculate the energy of activation of the reaction (R = 8.314 JK -
1
mol-1).
