1. This paper consists of sections A and B.
2. Answer ALL questions in both sections.
3. ALL necessary working and answers for each question done must be shown clearly and in orderly

4. NECTA Mathematical tables, graph papers and geometrical instruments may be used where necessary.

SECTION A (60 marks)


1. (a) The numbers 28, 41,42,59,70 belong to the set of natural numbers. By using these numbers;
Calculate the difference between the least common multiple of the prime numbers and the
greatest common factor of the remaining numbers. (04 marks)
(b) Write 935.0482 correct to;
i. 1 significant figures
ii. 2 decimal places (02 marks)

(b) The ministry of Business and Industries has planned to employ 54 people who will work in the
business sector, 36 people who will work in industries sector only; 12 people who will work in
both sectors and 21 people who will neither work in business sector nor in industries sector. How
many people will be employed by the ministry? (Use Venn diagram) (03 marks)

4. (a) Given a line segment PQ with end points P (6, 4) and Q (2, 𝑎2 ) If the mid – point of the line
segment is [4, 4(a – 1)], Find the value of a. (03 marks)
(b) Given that a = 3𝑖 -2𝑗, b = 2𝑖 + 𝑗 and c = 4𝑖+ 3𝑗. Find; (03 marks)

ii. |2a – 3b|

5. (a) Find the area of regular nonagon (9 sides) of side 6cm. (03 marks)
(b) ∆PQR is similar to ∆XYZ. XY=12cm, XZ=14cm, PQ=18cm and <YXZ=30⁰. Find;-
i. The length PR
ii. The area of triangles (03 marks)

6. (a) Plant A grows 15cm in 8 days, plant B grows 12cm in 5 days and plant C grows 18cm in 11
days, which plant is growing the lowest? (03 marks)

(b) Suppose that, the string of a musical instrument is held at constant tension and length. Then
the frequency of the note it plays, f cycles per second is inversely proportional to the square root
of its density d grams per metre (g/m). A string of density 0.2g/m has frequency 260 cycles per
second (middle c)
i. Find an equation giving f in terms of d
ii. What is the frequency if the density is changed to 0.3 g /m? (03 marks)

7. (a) Find the buying price of an article that is sold for sh. 230 000 at a profit of 15 percent. (02 marks)

(b) (i) Explain the meaning of double entry as used in accounts. (0.5 marks)
(ii) On 1st July, 2019 Mr. Toshiba commenced business with capital in cash of 200,000/= and
then bought goods for cash 110,000/= on 4th July 2019. Showing relevant ledger accounts
complete the double entry for these transactions. (03.5 marks)

8. (a) Morrison deposits Tshs.8000/= in a bank at the rate of 12% compounded annually, after
how many years will he receive a total of Tshs.22,580/= (03 marks)

(b) Given three non-zero numbers x, y and z which are in G.P, x + y + z = 70, and 4x, 5y and 4z
are in A.P, find the values of x, y and z. (03 marks)

9. (a) Find the angles between 0o and 360o for which Tan 𝜃 = -2.1 (03 marks)
(b) In the diagram shown below < 𝐴𝐷𝐵 = 90𝑜 , 𝐴𝐵 = 20cm, 𝐵𝐷 = 17cm and 𝐴𝐶 = 12cm, find the
length 𝐶𝐷 (03 marks)

10. (a) If you square 5 more than a positive number, the result is 88 than 12 times a number. Find
a number. (03 marks)
(b) Factorize the expression x2 – 2x – 15 (03 marks)

11. (a) The daily wages of one hundred men are distributed as shown in the table below;

(b) The points A, B, C and D lie on a circle with centre O. AB is diameter, angle BAD=55⁰ and angle
BDC =20⁰. ABE and DCE are straight lines. Find; (05 marks)

12. (a) Three towns P, Q and R are on the parallel of latitude 30⁰N. The distance between P and Q
is 1482km and between Q and R is 926km. Q whose longitude is 10⁰E is between P and R. Find
the longitude of P and R. (06 marks)

(b) A square base pyramid has 12m3 as its volume. If the height of pyramid is 4m, find the length of
the side of the base. (04 marks)

13. (a) A is a matrix, |A| = 24 and A-1 = 12 . Find: - (i). y (ii). Matrix A. (04 marks)

(b) A firm manufacturing two types of electrical items A and B can make a profit of 20 dollars per
unit of A and 30 dollars per unit of B. Both A and B make use of two component a motor and a
transformer. Each unit of A requires 3 motors and 2 transformers and each unit of B requires 3
motors and 5 transformers. The total supply of components per month is restricted to 210 motors
and 300 transformers. How many of each of A and B should the firm manufacture per month to
maximize the profit? How much is the profit? (05 marks)
