LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET (English 10 Quarter 1 - Week 1) MELC: Observe The Language of Research Campaigns and Advocacies
Advocacy and campaign are actions and movement that speak in favor of, propose, argue for a
cause, support or defend, or plead on behalf of other persons, or a relevant issue. Moreover, it means
taking certain actions to create change. Advocates organize themselves to take steps to tackle an
issue. They help to give people ways to speak out about things that negatively affect them. Advocating
or campaigning has been described as "speaking truth to power". We usually see advocacies
supported by different organizations, celebrities, and the like. Examples include advocacy to promote
quality education, gender equality, and ending poverty.
In all cases, advocacy and campaigning are about promoting and trying to achieve some
positive change, not just raising awareness of problems.
Task 1
Directions: Read the short advocacy essay on climate change. On a separate sheet of paper, answer
the questions that follow.
The biggest threat that we are facing today is climate change. It is very dangerous if we do not
tackle it then its consequences are deadly. Also, we need to pay attention to some important things to
activities that cause it; enhance our resilience to its effects; and talk about it.
The global warming is speeding up and the 20 warmest years on record have all come since
1995. Furthermore, the last 2010s decade has five warmest years. Due to global warming many
species, birds, habitats, trees, and aquatic life are badly hurt. Also, the hot conditions increased the
demand for water.
Moreover, the environmental agency responded to a 330% increase in incidents relating to
drought. Besides, this type of thing will not happen every year. However, they will occur more often
and will be worse. According to scientists estimate by 2040 there will not be anything except the
summer season.
What will happen if the earth’s temperature rises by a few degrees? For a short period, it does
not affect badly but in the long run, the consequences will be devastating.
To understand the long-term effects of climate change, here are some other points:
1. Tropics around the world will be drier and hotter.
2. Higher latitudes will be wetter and hotter.
3. Also, the sea level will rise significantly, maybe up to a meter in places by 2100, as waters
warm-up and take up more space and our glaciers and land-based ice sheets melt. Moreover, this
rise is particularly scary, because while other climate change-driven effects like flooding or drought
can do terrible harm but recovery from them is possible.
To conclude, it is a scandal that there is nothing like climate change. Also, a lot has been done to
tackle it. But we are still not doing all we could. Tackling climate change should be our primary top
agenda. It is no main agenda because most people are busy with their lives and have other worries.
