II. Solve the following. (Show your solution).


1. To prepare breakfast, a mother connected and turned on her 1500 W bread toaster, 500 W
coffee maker, and 2000 W electric frying pan to the same 220 V line protected by a 20 A
fuse. Find the (a) resistance of each appliance and the (b) current drawn by each appliance.

2. The force between two identical charges separated by 3 cm is equal to 80 N. What is the
magnitude of the two charges?
3. What must be the distance between point charge q1 = 26.0 𝜇C and point charge q2 = -47 𝜇C
for the electrostatic force between them to have a magnitude of 5.70 N?
4. What is the potential difference across an electrical load that has a resistance of 6 ohms and
a current of 5 A flowing through it? (2 points)
5. Calculate the current an electric clothes dryer draws when it is connected to a 220 V
source and has a resistance of 9.2 ohms. (2 points)
6. An IPod uses a standard 1.5 V battery. How much resistance is in the circuit if it uses a
current of 0.01 A? (2 points)
7. A light bulb has a resistance of 8 ohms and a maximum current of 10 A. How much voltage
can be applied before the bulb will break? (2 points)
8. Find the capacitance of a parallel –plate capacitor is 1800 𝜇C of charge is on each plate
when the potential difference is 90 V. (2 points)
9. What potential difference is required to store a charge of 800 𝜇C on a 40 𝜇F capacitor? (2
points)
10. A potential difference of 110 V is applied across the plates of a parallel –plate capacitor. If
the total charge on each plate is 1200 𝜇C, what is the capacitance? (2 points)
Find the total capacitances for each connection shown. (show your solution) (15 points)

For each circuit, find the equivalent capacitance, and the voltage across and charge on each
