ACTIVITY 1 – WEEK 6
The style of dance I chose is the Ati-Atihan Festival, known
as The Mother of All Philippine Festivals that is celebrated
in Kalibo, Aklan, which showcases music and dances that

Style of Dance are festive. Festival Dance is a cultural dance performed to

used the strong beats by a community of people sharing the
similar culture or tradition usually done in honor of a
Patron Saint/Religious or in thanksgiving of a bountiful
harvest/Secular/Non-religious.
The dance executed in Ati-Atihan Festival are
nonsynchronous, meaning that it means that dancing here
is not concurrent and simultaneous. It involves ABA and
improvisation as its choreographic theme. ABA form is the
statement of a theme or idea, the introduction of a second
theme, and the return to the first theme. In sadsad, it
involves putting one foot in front as its first theme. Taking
two half-steps forward as its second theme. And doing the
Choreographic
first theme on the other foot. Improvisation can be a
Forms
valuable tool in creating unique and original movements.
Improvising is the act of creating movement on the spot,
without premeditation of what you are going to do. The
idea is to free your body to move as it wants to for that
moment, to be spontaneous and stimulate imagination and
invention. Dancers during Ati-atihan Festival can
improvise their hand movements and other steps, but they
do need to generally follow the sadsad basic step.

b. two half-steps forward (sadsad - footwork)

c. step back with turn-around (optional)

d. left foot in front (sadsad – footwork)

e. hand movements like lateral (optional when not holding

an offering and a bottle of beer)

With the strong percussions of played instruments during

Ati-Atihan, the whole emotion and mood of dancers
during the dances are celebrative, excitement, and filled
with joy. Furthermore, this festival is a religious festival
in honor of the Infant Jesus, Sto. Nino, that’s why they
need to be happy and full of excitement during the whole
duration of the activities and dances around Kalibo,

Emotions Aklan as thanksgiving. Also, it comes through as

Description competitive to other dancers as it is their time to group
together and battle it out on the streets. Of course, as a
dancer, you want to stand out among other dancers,
that’s why they dress colorful costumes, prepare the
mightiest bands, and execute eye-catching hand
movements and dance steps to the crowd or the public.
While watching the performances, I was also moved with
their emotions and mood as they celebrate the festival.

ORGANIZED
EVENTS THAT 1. If given the chance, I would like to organize a fun
ADDRESSESS
HEALTH/FITNES run campaign for the school that aims to garner
S ISSUES AND funds for the school’s Brigada Eskwela, while also
CONCERNS
immersing students, parents, teachers, and joined
members to be fit and be healthy through small ways
such as running. It burns fats and moves your body;
this is a good activity once the pandemic is over in
order for people to stay away from sedentary lifestyle
that they have practiced during quarantine.

2. Secondly, every celebration of the Nutrition Month, I

would like to conduct sessions and seminars for
students in discussing wellness and lifestyle, which
are great factors in affecting our holistic health and
fitness. It includes the pros and cons on lifestyle
behaviors and attitudes. It is a great platform in
discussing obesity and being a couch potato, which
are huge issues/problems by adolescents in the
Philippines.
3. During my year when I was in Grade 11, the lack of
time and the rise of COVID-19 has led to the
postponement of the Intramurals. So, when the
pandemic is over, I would push in planning a project
regarding Intramurals or having a School-based
Sportsfest. In this, students are given the chance to
join activities and sports such as team sports
(basketball and volleyball) and individual sports
(darts, chess, and scrabble). Every one is encouraged
to join and have fun as it helps you become fit and
healthy.

4. I know that Physical Education 4 in Second Semester

discusses swimming as a way to be fit and healthy.
With this, I intent to propose a project where students
and interested people are given the chance to have
swimming lessons and training with Sir Michael
Comayingking as their lecturer. This does not only
help them to have a healthy lifestyle, but also helps
lessens deaths caused by drowning. Not a lot of
adolescents know how to swim properly. It is a good
skill to know how to swim as you can also help save
lives by having the ability to swim.

5. Lastly, Recreation is an activity of leisure, leisure

being discretionary time. The "need to do something for
recreation" is an essential element of human biology
and psychology. Recreational activities are often done
for enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure and are
considered to be "fun". There are a lot of activities that
can be accomplished when organizing a recreational
activity: it includes, backpacking, camping. Canoeing,
fishing kayaking, sailing, skiing, skydiving, and others.
These activities that helps you stabilize your mental
and psychological health as you get in touch with
nature. Also, you will have a time with your friends
and loved ones that nourishes your social skills. While
doing these, your physical state will be tested, which
provides an impact in achieving a healthy lifestyle and
having wellness within you.
