I'm so sorry everybody,I typed the wrong word,it 's OTS,I only know it is about the sample in pre-launch (maybe "S" stands for "sample"), but what's the
xiawas exact meaning?
What form is it on or what manual or 'standard' is it in? Is it in the AIAG's APQP manual?

A lot of you automotive types should be able to talk about this. It did not apply in the high tech machining business. I don't ever recall seeing it used as
an acronym, but I haven't lived long enough to see everything

Here's a copy of relevant paragraphs from an ITW subsidiary regarding "off tool sample" in regard to molded parts.
for the six samples on FCAI/FAPM report forms (or similar). Click to expand...
So what it means is you send the customer one of the samples off the tool as part of the PPAP process.

Put it simply: The piece which your customer will continue to receive in future during serial production, what means "you see is what you get".
Great Scotch
Starting to get Different from prototype. Prototype is still open for changes. That's why OTS follows what the PPAP defines as the final piece of sample.
Involved
some day to day example of OTS:
The sachet of shampoo you get from roadshows at the shopping mall is a form of OTS.
If the chefs deliver something different from what was accepted by the bride and groom, it will be a NC because OTS must be replicated again and again
exactly the same.

The very short answer - Parts made off production intent tooling sent with limited data to give everyone an early look at what actual production parts will
ncwalker be like.
Trusted Information
Resource The long answer:
The definition of prototype above is almost correct. With the understanding that you may or may not be required to send off tool samples (though lately,
it has always been a requirement) what you send in order is usually:
Prototype - The parts are made to print by whatever method possible. Or as near to print as possible. In many cases, the prototype manufacturer may
not even be the final production source. The engineers build the widget from all the prototype parts for Design Validation (DV) testing. It's the first build
of the "real thing" outside of all the simulations. And again, the components are made however they can be that is FAST. These are near final shape.
Off Tool Samples - This really comes from the enormous pressure to shorten all the lead times. The production supplier is given the design and makes
tooling. So these samples ARE made from the intended tooling, but the process does not necessarily have to be completed. Let's say you are making a
plastic part and inserting some knurled bushings as your final product. And your intention is to have this automated. You have your injection mold
delivered and you begin to run it. And maybe, you even put your bushings in manually. But - your automated transfer system isn't up and running. Your
trimming system isn't up and running. You have not done all your statistics (capability studies, gage R&Rs). You've just run your new mold. These parts

Media Your customer
Resources may requestList
Attachment them (maybe they want another DV run, maybe they need them to dial in THEIR

finalize THEIR fixtures and they want actual parts to do this). You send the Off Tool Samples with the understanding the parts were made from production
intent tooling, BUT all the links and setups of all the support equipment isn't all tied together. Many times you send them with limited measurement

intent tooling, BUT all the links and setups of all the support equipment isn t all tied together. Many times you send them with limited measurement
data, sometimes no data at all. That depends more on what your customer is intending them for. They may also be out of spec in a few areas (and it is
important to let the customer know) because this is typically your first run and you may need to make final adjustments. I have seen the requirements for
these vary widely from customer to customer as to acceptability of a few dimensions out and what data is to be supplied. But the one constant is - they
are made from production intent tooling.
Let's talk about some of the things that you may be required to submit with the OTS (or at least the items that take a lot of work):
Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plan - Not typically. It doesn't make sense, mainly because it is unlikely the OTS are usually NOT made by the final
process. Though you may be required to do a very basic process flow indicating the differences between how these were made and how it differs from
the final process.
Dimensionals - varies from customer to customer AND how many parts you send. I have seen this range from: no dimensions needed, to full layout on 6,
to every key characteristic measured on every part. It really depends on what the customer wants to use them for.
Material specs - usually they want this. Often, the data sheet from your material supplier is good enough, sometimes they want you to test it as well.
PPAP Samples - the same tools that made the OTS samples ... you have had time to play with them. Do your statistics. Early errors found have been
corrected. And your process is sitting in its final, production configuration. You run this process and generate your PPAP samples and all the required
PPAP documentation. This is representative of the final process you are going to run to make the parts.
