Eight passive voice tenses

Active voice
Subject + Action + Object S+V+O

Passive voice
Object + Action + Subject O + (HV) + V3 + “by” + S

Example.
Active voice: Abdi repaired my car.
Passive voice: My car was repaired by Abdi

Convert active voice to passive voice

Five steps:-
1. Identify: (Subject, Object, Verb)
2. Add: preposition (by before S)
3. Swap: (Subject convert Object)
4. Convert: (Verb convert V3)
5. Add: (HV before MV. O+(HV) + (V3) + “by” + S

While changing subject which is a pronoun to object

Add a proper helping verb of “to be” before the main verb

No Tenses Active voice Passive voice

1. Simple present tense Write / writes Is/am/are written


2. Present continues Is/am/are writing Is/am/are being written
3. Present perfect Have / has written Have been written
4. Simple past tense Wrote Was/were written
5. Past continues tense Was / were writing Was / were / being written
6. Past perfect tense Had written Had been written
7. Simple future Will write Will be written
8. Future perfect tense Will have written Will have been written

We don’t use four tenses while converting from active to passive

1. Present perfect continuous


2. Future continuous tense
3. Past perfect continuous tense
4. Future perfect continuous tense

1. Simple Present Tense


Active voice: He writes a letter.
Passive voice: A letter is written by him.

2. Present continuous tense


Active voice: Java is making a cake.
Passive voice: A cake is being made by Java.

3. Present perfect tense


Active voice: I have eaten a burger.
Passive voice: A burger has been eaten by me.

4. Simple past tense

Passive voice: A car was bought by him.

5. Past continuous tense


Active voice: Sara was singing a song.
Passive voice: A song was being sung by Sara

6. Past perfect tense


Active voice: Ali had finished homework.
Passive voice: Homework had been finished by Ali.

7. Simple future tense


Active voice: She will accept the offer.
Passive voice: The offer will be accepted by her.

8. Future perfect tense


Active voice: I will have charged the battery.
Passive voice: The battery will have been charged by me.
