dances.

and arm movements in folk dance which learners need to produce a folk-

physical activity and dance settings (cramps, sprain, heat exhaustion)

1 Religious Festival Dances

Festival Dances
Festival dances are cultural dances performed to the strong beats of
percussion instruments by a community of people sharing the same culture
usually done in honor of a Patron Saint or in thanksgiving of a bountiful harvest. It
may be religious or secular in nature.
Some of the famous festivals in the country include Sinulog of Cebu,
Dinagyang of Iloilo, Ati-atihan of Kalibo, Aklan, Buyogan ang Lingayan of Leyte,
Bangus of Dagupan, T’nalak of South Cotabato, Masskara of Bacolod City,
Bambanti of Isabela, and Kadayawan of Davao. Basically, festivals are forms of
entertainment that attract foreign and domestic tourists to visit a place. Eventually,
leading to the elevation of the Filipino’s quality of life.

Religious Festivals
Religious festivals are celebrated in honor of a certain religious icon usually
on the feast day of its patron saint.

Locomotor Movements
These are movements that allow you to move from one point in space to
another. It is canned from two words, “locos” which means place and “motor” which
means movement.

Non-locomotor Movements
These are movements that are performed in one point in space without
transferring to another point. They do not allow you to move from place to other.

Activity 4: PERFORMANCE TASK


Directions: Having the learners exposed to different kinds of festival dance,
challenge them to stage a festival putting all together the things they have learned.
This will give the learners the chance to participate in a festival dance possessing
the qualities of holistically developed dancer.
1. Choose from the religious festival dances you have previously learned.
2. Your performance should last at least three (3) to five (5) minutes.
3. Send your performance video to your P.E teacher through G-mail or Messenger
4. Be guided with the given criteria.
