CHAPTER ONE

1.1 INTRODUCTION
Online Hotel Reservation Management system is the required by the Agan Hotel,
especially the reception of Agan hotel. It surely facilitates the most required functions in the
reception of hotel booking.

Hotel Reservation System is a computerized system of managing and administrating

hotels, restaurants and lodges.  A properly managed hotel reservation system ensures proper and
efficient use of resources, which in result derives more revenue generation and ultimately more
profit.  It also centralizes the management, which means the changes in prices, property
details and condition of all the rooms can be tracked easily. (Hotel-Reservation-System, 2012.)

This chapter include background of the system, problem statement, purpose of the project,
project objectives, project scope, Significance of the project and report organization.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE SYSTEM

The hotel booking system is booking solution used for day-to-day hotel management.
Functionality includes room reservations booking, production of hotel management reports and
customer invoicing requirements.

The costumer can choose when he wants to use the In-house booking software on its own or also
integrate with online booking system Key features of the system include In-house booking
system managed on a single computer or over a local area network (LAN) or via a virtual
private network (VPN).

Allow the customers to make commission-free online bookings from own website. Online
bookings automatically download into the In-house booking system. No manual re-entering of
data is required. Manage and maintain own database of customer records In-house.

Support services including software training, system setup and upgrades. (hotel-booking-system,
2003.)

In 2011, it’s easy to forget that hotels didn’t always do bookings via electronic distribution.
Electronic communication has allowed hotels to reach consumers around the world through hotel
brand websites, travel search engines and travel agents.
The concept of electronic distribution developed from internal systems created by the airlines for
inventory control,” according to Cornell University’s Peter O'Connor and Andrew J. frew in the
June 2002 issue of Entrepreneur. Travel agents were subsequently given direct access to these
systems, allowing them to see real-time availability and pricing information, and to make instant
bookings. In the late 1960s, hotels began to see the opportunities that electronic distribution
provided and started to develop their own systems based on the airlines’ frameworks. Many hotel
brands adopted hotel identifiers based on airline city codes. Some of those identifiers still are in
use today.

The hotel systems far from sophisticated. Only a limited number of room types were on
offer through the systems. Users of electronic distribution also needed to learn a new
terminology such as three-character attributes for the room types. So it’s not surprising that
travel agents balked at the technological changes. They hesitant to use the GDS terminal for
hotel bookings, believing that telephone communication more efficient method for making hotel
reservations. Hotel companies worked to get the travel agents “off the phone” by providing
incentives and working to improve electronic distribution. Those tactics proved to be successful
in shifting travel agents to the new technology.[ CITATION Rie11 \l 1033 ]

1.1 PROBLEM STATEMENT

Agan hotel uses traditional way when it comes for customer bookings. Customers must
come in the hotel to make their bookings, while the staff in the counter should make the booking
manually by using book for customer reservation. The hotel lacks using such Online system for
customer bookings or reservations. Therefore, how can the hotel overcome such a problem
which decreases their business goals and get systematic way that can increase their business
productivity and efficiency. it uses traditional way of servicing their users in the hotel, so, this project
will solve that issue
1.2 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The purpose of this study is a to develop Hotel Reservation management system in order to
simplify and automate the process of searching for Reservation in case of Automatic Booking
and maintain the records, recipients, and registration programs.

1.3 PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The research objectives of the study as the follows: -
 To analyses the existing hotel reservation management systems used through online
 To design a Online hotel reservation management system Using UML modeling such as
use case diagram, Class diagram.
 To develop a Online hotel reservation Management System Using php as front end &
MySQL Server as back end.

1.4 PROJECT SCOPE

This system is developed for Agan Hotel the functions those will be carried through this
system are shown below:

Register, Login, User management, Employee management, Reservation Management,

Reports and Logout

The proposed system will be developed using Personal Home Page (Php) and MySQL, it will
be implemented between March 21/3/2021 to may 2018. This project is for Agan Hotel –
Kismayo- Somalia.
1.2 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This work improves all necessary information related to Online Hotel Reservation Management
System. Significance of this project is to facilitate the management of Reservation and also to
solve the security issue. The project also be useful for the Reservation for getting easily more
information and accurate about Reservation titles.

1.7 REPORT ORGANIZATION
