A conversation about taking body temperature using a thermometer.
Nurse : Assalamualaikum
Mrs. M : Waalaikumsalam, Come in please
Nurse : Good morning Mrs.
Mrs M : Good morning, Nurse
Nurse : I'm nurse blabla, I am going to check your child's temperature
Mrs M : Yes, please nurse
Nurse : Hello, Good morning

Syahrul : Good morning, nurse
Nurse : Is your name Syahrul ?
Syahrul : Yes, My name is Syahrul
Nurse : How are you doing Syahrul ?
Syahrul : I am rather unwell, nurse. I have got fever
Nurse : Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Did you sleep well last night ?
Syahrul : Not to well, nurse
Nurse : I see, have you taken any medicine ?
Syahrul : Yes, I have
Nurse : Good, Ok Syahrul, I just want to take your temperature with a thermometer
Syahrul : Yes, please
Nurse : Could you raise your arm because I'll put this thermometer on your armpit ?
Syahrul : Like this nurse ?
Nurse : Yes, thanks (then the nurse puts it at his armpit) and now place your left hand on y
our shoulder for a moment
Syahrul : My pleasure
Nurse : Very good
After 5 minutes, he takes thermometer back from Syahrul's armpit
Nurse : Ok, finished.Thank you

Syahrul : You're welcome, nurse. You are very kind

Mrs M : Nurse, how is my child's temperature ?

Nurse : His temperature is high, it's about 39'C
Mrs M : I see. I'm afraid,nurse.
Nurse : Dont worry, Mrs M. I suggest your child to drink plenty of liquid and sponge bath
as with lukewarm water for temperature over 38,9' C for 15-20 minutes to lower his temperat
ure
Mrs M : Oh, Ok, nurse.
Nurse : And please, do not use alcohol or ice for sponging.
Mrs M : Ok, nurse.
Nurse : Well, Mrs M, I will go to nurse station. Have you any question ?
Mrs M : No, I haven't. Thanks a lot, nurse.

Pembahasan :
Perawat : Pada pagi hari ada seorang ibu yang mengantarkan anaknya untuk periksa dikaren
akan demam, anak tersebut bernama ikhsan. Pada saat saya melakukan pemeriksaan saya me
ncoba untuk melakukan percakapan santai dengan si anak agar anak tersebut tidak takut atau t
egang saat pemeriksaan berlangsung. Tidak lupa saya mengecek suhu tubuh anak tersebut, ter
nyata panasnya cukup tinggi yaitu 39'C. Saya menyarankan kepada ibunya agar tidak khawati
r, dan bisa mengompresnya menggunakan air hangat selama 15-20 menit untuk meminimalisi
r demamnya agar segera turun.
Ibu : pada saat anak saya sakit atau demam, saya sebagai ibu segera membawanya untuk peri
ksa. Karena saya sangat khawatir takut terjadi sesuatu yang semakin memperparah keadaanny
a. Setelah anak saya diperiksa oleh perawat saya sudah lebih tenang dan perawat menyaranka
n untuk mengompres dengan air hangat agar panasnya segera turun.
Anak : sudah dari semalam saya merasa tidak enak badan dan mengalami demam. Kemudian,
keesokan paginya ibu saya mengantar saya periksa. Disana saya diperiksa oleh seorang pera
wat yang sangat baik. Sesekali perawat bertanya dengan ramah dan menggunkan Bahasa yan
g sopan, saya sangat menyukainya.
SOP TEMPERATURE
TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT (AXILLA)
Description Examination of body temperature is an indicator to assess the

balance between formation and heat release. Body temperature
range can be measured by using mercury thermometer through o
ral, rectal and axilla. And can also use digital’s termometer.
Purpose The Purpose of Temperature Measurement is to know the range
of body’s temperature
Tools 1. Termometer
2. 3 of bottle :
- Water Soap
- Desinfektan
- Clean Water
3. Crooked
4. Handscone
5. Tissue
6. Note Book of Nurse
Pre Interaction 1. Check the therapy progam
2. Washing hand
3. Prepare the tools
Orientation 1. Greeting to patient
2. Explain the procedures of temperature measurement
3. Ask about readiness of patient
Procedures 1. Use Handscone
2. Set the position of patient
3. Relegated the termometer until under 34̊ C – 35̊ C
4. Determine the location of axilla and clean it with tissue
5. Put termometer in axilla and the lenght of patient flexion
above her chest
6. After about 3 – 5 minutes take the termometer and read t
he result
7. Write the result at the Note Book of Nurse
8. Clean the termometer with tissue
9. Wash the termometer with water soap, desinfektan , then
clean water
10. Dry the termometer

 Babies and kids

In infants and children, average body temperature ranges (36.6 degrees Celsius) to
(37.2 degrees Celsius).
 Pada bayi dan anak-anak, rata-rata suhu tubuh berkisar (36,6 derajat celcius) dengan
(37,2 derajat celcius).
 Adults
Among adults, an average body temperature ranges from (36.1 degrees Celsius) to
(37.2 degrees Celsius).
 Di antara orang dewasa, rata-rata suhu tubuh berkisar dari (36,1 derajat celcius) samp
ai (37,2 derajat celcius).
 Adults over 65
In older adults, the average body temperature is lower than (36.2 degrees Celsius).
 pada orang dewasa yang lebih tua, rata-rata suhu tubuh lebih rendah daripada (36,2 d
erajat Celsius).
