     Identify and understand the reasons for immigration to the United States through Ellis Island.

    author’s purpose.

     Identify and understand the ways that Ellis Island and its purpose changed over time
     Identify and understand the experiences immigrants went through when they came to Ellis
    Island

     Activity

    Please the passage independently, then discuss with your group to answer the questions.

     SS.2.C.3.2- Recognize symbols, individuals, events, and documents that represent the United
    States.
     LAFS.1.RF.1.1- Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
     LAFS.2.RL.1.1- Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to
    demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
     LAFS.1.W.1.3- Write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced
    events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event
    order, and provide some sense of closure.
     LAFS.2.W.1.2- Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and
    definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.

    Procedures

    Students will read the passage “The End of Ellis Island” independently.

    The teacher will begin to divide the students into small-groups and allow the students to discuss and
    questions that related to the story.
