Fourth Form Physics Test

This document contains a physics test with three sections on vectors, moments, and equations of motion. Section A asks about the difference between vector and scalar quantities and calculating a resultant force. Section B defines moments and the conditions for equilibrium, asking about balancing a ruler on a pivot. Section C lists the four equations of motion and asks about calculating time and distance for a car accelerating uniformly from rest.

CLARENDON COLLEGE

PHYSICS TEST

This paper consists of three sections. Answer all questions in each section.

Section A: Vectors
1. Explain the difference between vector quantities and scalar quantities. Provide examples of each
for your explanation.
2. By using scale drawing or mathematical formula, calculate the resultant force for the following:

Note: Please describe the direction in which the resultant vector is going.
Section B: Moments
1. Define moments.
2. State the conditions necessary for a body to be in equilibrium.

3. The diagram above shows a situation where a ruler is balanced on a pivot. By using principles of
moments, determine the following:
1. Weight of the ruler
2. The reaction force at the pivot
Section C: Equations of Motion
1. Write the four equations of motion.
2. A car accelerates uniformly from rest to 150m/s. Given that the acceleration of the car is 10m/s2,
Calculate:
A. The time taken for the car to reach its final velocity.
B. The total distance the car travelled.
