Rcii-4 Fine Motor

This document provides instructions for a preschool activity where 4 children will create color pattern necklaces. The activity aims to develop the children's fine motor skills by having them string colored objects like beads or cereal loops onto yarn or string in simple AB patterns. The teacher will demonstrate making an AB pattern with yellow and green objects and explain the pattern before letting the children make their own necklaces. Creating the necklaces allows the children to practice recognizing and recreating patterns while strengthening their fine motor abilities.

Learning Experiences
(preschoolers)
Age(s): _3- and 4-year-olds______
Number of children: ____4____
Title of experience: __Color pattern necklace_

RCII-4_Fine motor__

Intended Goals:
Children will create patterns using colored objects using their fine motor skills.
Materials:
 Colored objects (pasta, cereal loops, wooden or plastic beads, paper chain links)
 Several 18 in (appropriate length) pieces of string or yarn to thread the items (one for
each child and the teacher)
 Baggies or trays for each child’s set of items to be threaded onto string.

Processes: (Procedures)
I will cut appropriate length of yarn or string to size that will create a long necklace for each
child. Gather a set of multi-colored objects in a small tray or baggie for each child. I will explain
to the students that today we will create a special necklace. You will make a color pattern using
the color objects on your tray.

Teaching Strategies:
I will have them watch me make an AB pattern with the colored objects explaining to them that
it doesn’t matter what object I use because I am only focusing on the yellow and green objects.
I will explain that the first color, yellow, is the A and the second color, green, is the B. The
students will then show me their own AB pattern. Once we go over the way an AB pattern
should look like, I will give them time them think about which color they want to use for their
necklace. I will assist when needed.

DAP:
This activity is developmentally appropriate because the student recognizes and creates
patterns, and the activity will help the student strengthen their fine motor skills.
