This learning module will give you the basic knowledge in assessing the appropriateness of
design based on the client’s features that will help you in building the competencies you need to develop
in the K to 12 Technology and Livelihood Education Program. The lessons included in this module are
presented developmentally so that after finishing the first lesson, you are ready to apply your learning
to the succeeding lessons and accumulate more knowledge and skills until you complete all the four
most essential learning competencies
For this week, this module provides the learners with the basic concepts and principles in
assessing the appropriateness of design based on the client’s feature. Knowing your body type is the
foundation of great style. It also includes reading specifications applying the elements of design which
is considered the building block of design. This will make them realize the importance of knowing your
body type in choosing your clothes.

Before starting the module, I want you to set aside other tasks that will disturb you while
enjoying the lessons. Read the simple instructions below to successfully enjoy the objectives
of this kit. Have fun!
1. Follow carefully all the contents and instructions indicated in every page of this module.
2. Write on your notebook the concepts about the lessons. Writing enhances learning, which is
important to develop and keep in mind.
4. Let your facilitator/guardian assess your answers using the answer key card.
5. Analyze conceptually the post-test and apply what you have learned.
Let us start your journey in learning more on how to assess the appropriateness of design based
on the client’s features. I am sure you are ready and excited to answer the Pre-test. Smile and cheer

Below are pointers that you can use as guide in personal styling. Go over these pointers and determine
carefully which figure type you belong to and use it as basis in choosing your clothes.
Elements of Design
The basis for developing and creating textile and clothing products are the elements of design.
There are four elements of design – line, shape, texture, and color.
1. Line – refers to the direction of the fabric designs. An important feature of the line is that it
provides movement. Different lines affect the visual representation of an individual’s height,
width, and size.
a) Vertical lines are used when you want to become taller and narrower.
b) Horizontal lines are used when you want to look wider.
c) Diagonal lines are used to emphasize a part of the body. These are often found in V-
neckline, flared skirts or pants.
d) Curvy lines are used to emphasize body curves. These are often found in necklines,
sleeves and fitted skirts.
e) Jagged lines suggest illusion of excitement, drama, and confusion.
2. Shape or Form – defined as the external appearance, form, or figure of a garment. The shape
or form of the garment can be used by the wearer to draw attention to or away from the various
parts of the body.
3. Texture – refers to the quality of the surface. The fabric used can affect the appearance of the
garment.
a) Coarse and thick texture gives an illusion of increased size. It is preferred for extreme
cold.
b) Mostly fines, soft and medium cloth is used in dress.
c) Glossy texture reflects light and gives an illusion of increased size. These are used in
parties.
d) Dull texture absorbs light and reduces the size.
4. Color – adds mood, expression, and enhances the appearance of a wardrobe. It is the most
important element of design for fashion designing.
