In figure 1, suppose the girl wants to see the In figure 2, suppose the boy wants to see the
top of the Eiffel Tower. Her eyes will see ground of the Eiffel Tower. His eyes will see
towards the top of it. The girl is looking above at the bottom. The boy is looking below the
the tower. tower.
Is it possible to find directly the distance along the ground from the person to the tower? The
trigonometric ratios as you have learned in the previous lesson will help you answer these questions.
Perform the succeeding activities to apply these concepts in solving real-life problems.
1
Definitions Angle of Elevation
Angle of Elevation is the angle from the horizontal to the line of sight of the
observer to the object above.
Angle of Depression is the angle from the horizontal to the line of sight of the
observer to the object above.

1. How did you identify the line of sight, angle of elevation and angle of
depression?
2. What ideas have you learned from this activity?
3. Do you think you can use these ideas in your daily life?
PRACTICE TASK 2
Identify Me!
Objective: To develop your accuracy in illustrating the pictures presented by the
information in the given word problems.
Materials: Ruler, Protractor and drawing materials.
Directions:
1. Draw the pictures presented by the information in the problems given. (This
problems don’t ask for an answer).
2. Assume that buildings, ladders, etc. are all on the level ground.
3. Clear, neat and accurate illustration is necessary.

PRACTICE TASK 3
Identify Me!
Direction: Choose any one (1) problem given below. Illustrate then solve. Use the template below.
Problems:
1. A 12-meter high post casts a shadow at 30° angle of elevation. Find the
distance of a shadow to a post.
2. The angle of elevation from a boat to the top of 92-meter hill is 12°. How far is
the boat from the base of the hill?
