EXAM 1 Questions.

The document contains an examination for a fourth stage design of reinforced concrete class. It includes three questions asking students to design various reinforced concrete structures: 1) A 4.3m x 6m residential building slab using ACI coefficient method, 2) A 5m square simply supported slab using yield-line theory, and 3) A flat plate supported on 5.5m spaced columns using elastic finite method. Notes provide additional requirements like material properties, load assumptions, and to consider an interior panel for question 3. Diagrams show the panel layout for question 3.

University of Kirkuk Class : Fourth Stage

College of Engineering Subject : Design of RC

Civil Eng. Dept. Time : One & Half
Date: 10/02/2021 First Examination Hour
(2020-2021)

Q1: The slab of a residential building of size 4.3 m × 6 m is simply supported on all the
four sides on 230 mm walls. Assuming an imposed load of 2 kN/m2 and load due to
finishes of 1.0 kN/m2, design the floor slab. Use M25 concrete and Fe 415 steel.
Assuming 10 mm diameter bars are used, cover 20 mm. Use ACI coefficient method.

(30 point)

Q2: Design using the yield-line theory a simply supported square slab of size 5 m to
support a service-imposed load of 3 kN/m2. Assume floor finishing load to be 1 kN/m2.
Adopt M20 concrete and Fe 415 grade reinforcement. Assume diameter of bars used as
10 mm, cover = 25 mm.

(10 points)

Q3: Design a flat plate supported on columns spaced at 5.5 m in both directions. The
size of the column is 500 mm by 500 mm and the imposed load on the panel is 4 kN/m2.
The height of each floor is 3.5 m. The floor slab is exposed to moderate environment.
Assume floor finishing load to be 1 kN/m2 and use M25 concrete and Fe 415 grade
steel. Assuming 12 mm diameter bars are used, cover 30 mm. Also, check for punching
shear. Use E.F.M.

(60 point)

Notes:

1- Consider interior panel F for Q3.

2- Use concrete density equal to 25 kN/m3 for all questions.
