a. Discussion
Good morning everyone! Good morning Sir Dale.

Okay, let us not waste any time and get right

into our lesson. Our lesson for today is all
about Adobe Photoshop.

Now does anyone have any idea what

Photoshop is and what it does? You can use it to edit pictures!

Correct! But that’s just the tip of the iceberg

when it comes to the functions of Photoshop.
So to begin our lesson let us learn what
Adobe Photoshop really is.

So, Adobe Photoshop, or more commonly

known as just Photoshop,  is a  raster graphics
editor  developed and published by  Adobe

Address: Purok 2, Dansolihon, Cagayan de Oro City

Inc.  for  Windows  and  macOS. It was
originally created in 1988 by brothers Thomas
and John Knoll. Photoshop can edit and
compose raster image in multiple layers and
supports masks, alpha compositing with
numerous color models including RGB, CMYK,
CIELAB, spot color and duotone. Put into
simpler terms Photoshop is a software that is
used to create, manipulate and improve
visual media such as pictures, posters,
documents and digital paintings.

I know there’s a lot of confusing words and Yes!

acronyms I just mentioned so let’s open up
Photoshop and see what the fuzz is all about.

After loading up the program we can see a

window full of different bars and options so
let’s identify them one by one.

The different parts of a common Photoshop

Interface and their functions are:
 Menu bar – it is the basic bar that is
present in almost every program.
Here we can create a new file, open
an existing file, save progress and
edit the different options available in
the program.

 Option bar – this is where the

specialized and contextualized
options of every tool are displayed. It
also contains the work space menu,
where we can save and load
arrangements of palettes.

 Tool bar- this is main component of

Photoshop which contain all the
editing tools that users can utilize.

 Canvas – it is the central window that

displays the image being edited and
all the alterations that have been

Address: Purok 2, Dansolihon, Cagayan de Oro City

done on the document.

 Palettes – also known as panels, No, Sir Dale.

these windows contain important
information. This information can be
on the color channels, layers, paths,
etc.
So class do you have any questions in our
discussion so far?

Now to prevent your heads from hurting due

to an overload of information we will only
discuss a handful of tools. Just enough for you
to edit simple stuff.

The tools which we will be discussion are:

 Move tool – used to move around the
selected layer or group of pixels

 Marquee tool – used to select a

group of pixels, follows a regular
shape

 Lasso tool – used to select a group of

pixels, follows any shape created by
the user.

 Eyedropper tool – used to sample the

specific color from any image and use
it in your work.

 Brush tool – used to select different

brushes which can then be used to
manipulate any image.

 Eraser tool – used to erase any detail

from your image.

 Text tool – used to insert text into

your image.

Address: Purok 2, Dansolihon, Cagayan de Oro City

 Shape tool – used to create or draw
shapes.

Believe it or not using these tools making any

basic media such as posters is possible. But
don’t think since these tools are very simple
that you already know everything about
them. That is the beauty of Photoshop it is
easy to learn, but it takes a long time to
master.

But before we go making a poster let us

discuss an important concept in Photoshop,
layers. If you’ve only used programs like MS
Paint then this concept will seem alien to you. No, Sir Dale.
But don’t worry you just have to think of
Photoshop layers as sheets of acetate stacked
on top of one another. Imagine if you will an
image on one piece this acetate, and then
imagine another sheet of acetate with
different picture on it. If you put one acetate
with a picture on top of the other one then
the image on top will cover the bottom
picture. This behavior is the same when it
comes to Photoshop layers. Allow me to
demonstrate it here on Photoshop so that
you can understand better. Yes, Sir Dale.

(Proceed to demonstrate layers and layer

properties on Photoshop) Good bye and thank you Sir Dale!

So now that the demonstration is finished, do

you have any questions regarding layers?

Good! Now that we have a rough understand

of the different parts and tools of Photoshop
coupled with our new learnings about layers
let’s make a simple poster to practice.

(Proceed to create a simple poster on

Photoshop using all the tools discussed
earlier)

Now that wasn’t too hard right class?

Well I hope that with our short lesson for
today a spark of creativity embers inside of
you. If you have no more questions then let us
end our class here for today. Good bye and
see you in our next class everyone.
