Design Thinking Assignment
Introduction
Design thinking is a useful tool and new way of tackling problems. It gives us new choices
instead defaulting to our normal convergence approach where we make the best choice out
of alternative approaches, design thinking encourages us to take divergent to explore new
options, alternatives and solutions and new ideas that have not existed before (Brown,
2009).
From the aforementioned and quite a few other reasons, yes, I absolutely concur that
simplicity in this current age is a key competitive advantage. In the fast moving world we
presently live where there are so many things making lives complex, simplicity is highly
sorted to reduce the complexity in the daily lives and deliver convenience at one’s comfort.
Having too many logins, form filling and steps to follow just to make an online transaction or
shop can become complex for customers nowadays. Customers are seeking for a better way
and option to achieve their goals with going through much stress.
Put together, simplicity has everything to do with the ease of use of products and services,
which has been key to the success of companies like Amazon and Apple. Amazon for
example display simplicity in it approach. The company with the “1-Click Ordering” allows
customers to place order automatically and skip the shopping cart (Amazon, n.d.), which
makes it fantastic. Additionally, Simpler Companies employing simplicity explains how top
executives should work backwards from what people need to do their work. Thus, it helps
employees make smarter decisions faster. This in turn makes for a more productive
company which is produces competitive advantage
What other factors do you consider relevant for adding value to customers?

In addition to simplicity that add value to customers, Powers (2015) point out five factors
that are vital for adding value to customers. They stem from always considering customers’
perspective, consistently working to improve customer satisfaction, implementing
marketing models into strategy, developing a memorable customer experience, and never
underestimating the value of free resources. These can be perceived as being some of the
most critical factors in delivering the value want to customers. Moreover, to add value to
customers, it is crucial to think of personalization and understanding customers’ needs,
which cleverly combined will add value and improve customer experience. Personalized
customer service is relevant in the process of adding value to customers since it reveals that
the company cares about them (Furgison, 2016). Furthermore, by understanding one’s
customer’s needs, one can associate products with customer experiences. Coca-Cola for
example is a company that does this combination quite often and very efficiently.
Share some experiences about technology products or services that have added
value to you as a customer?
Smartphone is one at of many technologies that have added value to me as a customer.
Smartphone offer me convenience and peace of mind. It has indeed added value to me as a
customer since I can do most of my tasks on it. It is linked with online services such as online
banking services, online shopping and e-Learning services. The simplicity of using the
Smartphone have definitely added value to me, as a customer. In addition, I can download
e-books, music, access e-learning platforms and make financial transactions using my
smartphone. It allows me to view books, listen to music, research, communicate with
friends and family.
