MMW - Assignment 1.1
MMW - Assignment 1.1
1:
For this assignment, you need to watch the video lectures for Lessons 1 & 2.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) One of the many topics discussed that I learned from both the readings and
the video clips are what was mentioned in both the introduction and in lesson 1,
that is how skills in mathematics should not be the measurement or the standard
of being overlooked in ones person's potential. Especially if the word
"mathematics" itself is thought of as complicated; as mathematics does not only
surround numbers alone, but it requires how one student or person to have the
capability to be able to reason and make logical inferences, especially if this
something not realized or thought of immediately. This also requires the
capabilities to generalize and see the relations of the mentioned visible and
invisible patterns o the fundamental feature of mathematics in the natural or
real world. (2) Another topic I learned under the topic Patterns and Numbers in
Nature and the primary definition for pattern, which has three types that
includes: Numeric Patterns, Geometric Patterns, and Patterns of Change. I've
learned that the concept of pattern occurs in new perspectives in the natural
world that can be either in structure, patterns in changes and fractals, or even
chaos. (3) Lastly, the topic that I learned out of the many that were discussed
was the concept of the Golden Rations also applies to Human Anatomy, in which
is fascinating how one's face form can be divided with sections of the length of
the face, the width of the nose, length of mouth or even the little or the middle
finger has to do with golden rations. As the discussion further goes, it even
covers golden ratios within the faces of celebrities and even discusses its
relationship with DNA molecules.
(1) One of the things that still is unclear to me was the concept of the Golden
ratio when as introduced and discussed to how a line segment is possible to be
divided, how does that create a common value and irrational constant and why
is it approximately equal to 1.618. This confusion also applies to Golden Triangle
and Logarithmic Spiral, as to why and how it must be precisely 36 degrees and 72
degrees. Other than that, with the Golden Ratio applied to the examples, it
became slightly clearer. (2) The second topic that is still unclear to me is one of
the 17 Equations that Changed the World, as even if it was taught, again and
again, the Complex Numbers with the equation of i2 = -1. I do not understand
how it will be applied in problems that concern Fractal Geometry, or Mandelbrot
Sets and Julia Sets, or the equation itself at all. (3) Lastly, what remained unclear
to me the Fibonacci Numbers as encountering this topic seems that when not
understood immediately, it will have the impression of being complicated and
will be harder to reason with it.
I used to think like mentioned in one of the three topics to be able to excel in
mathematics, you have to be able to be gifted with numbers. As I've not excelled
in Mathematics myself, in the long run I then realized how this subject does not
surround or is centered on being good at numbers itself but having the
capabilities such as reasoning, logical inferences, generalizations, seeing
problems as patterns, and the like. (2) I used to think that solutions or equations
given or stated were very much complicated. Still, now that each one of them
from basics to complex such as The Pythagorean Theorem, Logarithms, "Modern
World," Newton's Law of Gravity, "Complex Numbers," Gaussian Distribution,
Euler's Formula, etc. are explained briefly, I now think that each is interesting
rather than hard and impossible for me to grasp its concepts or equations. (3)
Lastly, I used to think that Patterns such as Chaos and Fractal do not exist until
the discussion, in which I now learned that these given formulas or equations
have impacts on our lives in general.
(1) If I were to ask about the readings or the video clips, I would like to ask if will
the already discussed topics will be re-discuss in the future in a more specific
context that focuses on that topic such as Fibonacci Numbers. (2) Are there
other ways to measure the Golden Ratios or specifically the golden spiral asides
from the ones stated? (3) Lastly, are there cases wherein it requires other ways
to be able to control the needed result in patterns as to the level of difference?
