Analyze

1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx videos
that you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?

From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx
videos that we viewed, the competencies does a great teacher possess are:
 A teacher that knows how to listen to his/her students is a great teacher. It does
not only mean that if you can hear what the student said then, you are already a
good teacher. To listen is to know and to understand what does the student is
trying to imply.
 A teacher that shows empathy to a struggling student. Noticing and helping a
struggling student is also one of the competencies of a great teacher.
 A teacher that can make the students trust him/her. Don’t make your students fear
you. Make them feel that though you are a teacher, they can still open up to you
but in a respectful way.
 A teacher that knows how to effectively communicate with his/her students.
 A teacher that understands that school is not only the life of the students.

2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?

The competencies are not only limited to professional competencies because as a future
teacher, a teacher can also do great in step by step process until you become a teacher who in the
highest standard for teaching. Because teachers every day learn and teach the student to
understand the learning process and understand what to teach. A teacher can also be a friend of
every student in a good way and treating them that they are still your teacher. A teacher can be
an adviser if students have problems either in school or in the family. But most importantly, both
teacher and student know their limitations and responsibilities as a teacher and as a student.
Therefore, these competencies can be able to help teachers to be professional teachers. On the
other hand, not only professionals can do this but as long as you have a good intention for
everybody still you can be a good and a great person.

3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a

lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades?
Explain your answer.

For a teacher to be great, it’s enough to possess these professional competencies because
they will provide quality learning, particularly for students. This will have a good impact on
student's academic development and skills, as well as assisting teachers in improving their
teaching methods. They are in charge of running the educational system, so they must have
strong and efficient professional skills. These competencies provide teachers with practical ideas,
practices, and guidelines for improving instruction and thereby improving student achievement
and the quality of the work environment. So, every teacher should possess these skills in order to
be successful in learning and teaching.

4. For a teacher to be great which is more important - personal qualities or professional

competencies?

For a teacher to be great, we prefer that personal qualities are more important because it
influenced their personal attributes. Enable them to negotiate a new scenario, develop new
acquaintances and connections, or resolve conflict. One example of this is a teacher has the
ability to listen to his/her students. Listening and being a good listener are crucial qualities in a
teacher since they can only help and encourage their students to improve if they have a solid
understanding of who they are and where they are in their academic path. As a teacher, it’s
critical to pay attention to what students are interested in so that courses may be tailored to their
specific interests, how they express any issues or barriers so that the teacher can be supportive,
and how they interact with other students and in the classroom. Listening is also useful for
comprehending cultural differences and this is also a personal quality that is required to
comprehend one’s situation.
5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?

The teachers that we remember the most are those teachers that are kind, approachable,
and understanding. For students will not become hesitant to ask questions and to participate if
they know that anytime they can approach the teacher. Teachers that are so-called “terror” create
a gap between the students. Students fear them which results in not being comfortable in the
class. For that fear hinder them to freely ask and participating. Another thing that we remember
the most are those teachers who are good communicator, very creative in delivering their lessons,
and teachers that gives interactive activities.

REFLECT

Which personal which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement
in?
The personal traits do I possess is being patience because this one of the most difficult of
personal qualities to develop. To achieve true happiness in my life I need to cultivate patience.
And the things that I do not possess is that if there is problem you should set aside that so that
your job will not be affected. And the improvement do I need is to develop my skills in
communicating in order to become a good listener and a good teacher.

Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?

The professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating is that the teacher

I want to become.

Which competencies do I need to develop more?

The competencies do I need to develop more is all in the competencies but the most I
need to develop is to become a teacher everyday because not all the time teacher is in the good
mood because all of us has have our own life that has an individual problemand we cannot deny
it. So that problems ca affect our work. And that is what I need to develop because I am a
emotional person.

Who are the teachers that we remember most?

We may remember all the teachers we’ve had but the teacher we remember most are kind
or funny or brilliant and passionate. They remember teachers who cared about them. And
teachers who were supportive or encouraging that saw something in them like no one else did.
We remember teachers who challenged them and made them think. The teacher we remember
the most is the greatest tribute we can leave to that teacher. After all, memorable teachers don’t
have to be perfect.
