EST Technical FAX TFN: 060403 Page 1 of 4: TSFORM 011 Rev 1.1

The document describes a utility called Reclaim Projects that allows technicians to recover fire alarm project databases that may have been bypassed when upgrading the System Definition Utility (SDU). The utility searches the computer for installed SDU versions and displays recoverable project databases. Technicians select the projects to reclaim, which are then reopened with new passwords. Reclaim Projects supports recovering projects from SDU version 3 and 2 but not the QuickStart Configuration Utility.

Topic: Reclaiming SDU Projects

Introduction
Occasionally, after installing an upgraded version of the EST3 System Definition
Utility (3-SDU) or System Definition Utility 2 (2-SDU), you are unable to open a
specific project database. The project existed in the previous version, and following
the upgrade the project folder still exists; however, you’re unable to open it.
The Reclaim Projects software utility was created by our software engineers to
recover those project databases that may have been bypassed when upgrading your
System Definition Utility.
When you start Reclaim Projects, it searches your computer to determine which
System Definition Utilities you have installed, and displays buttons that let you select
either SDU.

Procedure
1. Start Reclaim Projects by opening the ProjectReclaimer.exe file.
The Reclaim Projects window opens, with buttons corresponding to the SDUs that
were detected on your computer.
2. Click the button for the SDU Utility that corresponds to the project database you
want to reclaim.
For example, if you’re attempting to reclaim an EST3 project database, click the
button labeled 3-SDU. Reclaim Projects lists the projects and project versions for
that SDU. Only those project versions that need to be reclaimed are listed. (See
the figure below for an example.) Note that the same process applies for 2-SDU
projects.

3. In the Reclaim column, check the checkbox for each project version you want to
reclaim.
4. Click Reclaim Project Versions to reclaim the projects.
Reclaim Projects opens the Create Project Password dialog box.

5. Enter a new password for the project version.

If you are reclaiming several projects and versions, you’ll be prompted to enter
the password for each version. Once you’ve entered a password, it appears each
time the Create Project Password dialog box opens. Simply click OK to continue
to use that password.
When the reclaiming process is complete, the reclaimed project version is
removed from the list.
6. When all the selected project versions have been reclaimed, click Close to exit
from Reclaim Project.
When there are no projects to be reclaimed, the message “No 3-SDU project
versions to reclaim” is displayed at the top of the Reclaim Projects window.
