General

New Interpreter versions included in MetaDimension v7.0:

MetaDimension version 7.0 includes new, updated versions of both the Adobe CPSI Interpreter
and the Adobe PDF PrintEngine.

Additional Interpreter information:

– PDF to PS conversion now supports PDF 1.7.

– PDF PrintEngine has been compatible with PDF 1.7 since MetaDimension 6.5

– Adobe PDF PrintEngine is automatically installed with Prinect MetaDimension 7.0; the
license will determine if it is allowed to be used.

Licensing:

Prinect Meta Dimension 7.0 is now licensed through the License Server and a License Server
dongle. Therefore, a new license key will be required both for new installations and upgrade
installations. All of the Meta 7 licenses are fixed (or node-locked).

For an upgrade installation, the legacy license dongle must remain plugged in unless you obtain
and enter a Reduction Key to deactivate the old dongle.The number of the legacy dongle must
be supplied for the license generation in the case of an upgrade.

One Installer for All Components

General:

There is one common Installer for all components of Prinect MetaDimension 7.0. This installer
consists of two steps and will install all of the required Engine Managers.

– A wizard gathers all of the workflow requirements for the installation.

– A configuration wizard sets up the device parameters.

Note: The HD EngineManager group that was previously in Start > Programs is now omitted.

Start menu:

The start menu no longer has the HD EngineManager group. All of the Meta components are
shown in one group - Start > Programs > Heidelberg Prinect MetaDimension.

Folders:

There is now one folder structure created for all components according to the settings made in
the Installer. The location of this structure is in C:\Program Files\Heidelberg\MetaDimension.

Modifications to the Installation:

You can make additions or modifications to the installation at any time using Add or Remove
Programs or with the Installer. However, make sure in either case to keep the components
already installed that you still want to use selected. Deselected components will be removed.

Task Manager:

The names of processes in Task Manager have been updated. All process names will now start
with HD; for example, HDEventService.exe, HDInterpreter.exe etc.

New features in the Printmanager

Printmanager / Administration / Configuration

Virtual printers:

The user interface of Virtual Printers has been reworked. The selected Output Plan is displayed
separately in its own dialog box. The complete name of it can be viewed in a tooltip.

Some options have slightly changed their position in the user interface. Extended check boxes
for the Delete Job After function have been added. The time span you can specify is now up to
99 days.

– only when Drive Monitor alert value is reached: The criterion is the limit value of the
Drive Monitor the Spool drive is set to. When this option is selected, the time specified in
the above field of Days and Hours will be ignored.

– also delete Jobs with warning status: Jobs set to done (warning) will also be deleted.

– also delete Jobs with error status: Jobs containing errors and those aborted by the
user will also be deleted.

Preferences:

New functions

– Delete output of failed jobs: Output files of failed jobs will be deleted automatically. This
also applies to jobs aborted by the user. The pertaining job remains in the Job List.

– Generate CIP before final output: CIP data will be generated prior to final output, similar
to the previous behavior of Prinect MetaDimension. If this check box is left unchecked, CIP
output will occur after final output.

– License Server: Specify the License Server here. The name specified during installation
will be displayed. It can be changed if the License Server is beng moved.

JDF Portal

Extended check boxes for the Delete Job After function have been added. The time span you
can specify is now 99 days. The functions behave as described under Virtual Printers.

Screening:

For the conventional IS Classic screen you can select the smallest Feature Size, similar to
when you select Prinect Hybrid Screening. The advantage to this might be the prevention of the
disappearance of smallest dots on the plate and during printing.

Screening: Step and Repeat

The functions described here apply to the CPSI Renderer and not to Adobe PDF PrintEngine.
The function is automatically enabled for proof output via a Primary Device.

– Optimize Step and Repeat: These functions are intended for print jobs having several
identical 1ups placed on a single sheet (multiple 1ups). The objective for step and repeat
optimization is to interpret repeated objects only once in order to save processing time.
Click the Optimize Step and Repeat checkbox to enable this function.

– Synchronize screening for each page: With this function enabled, the screening is
resynchronized on each of the multiple objects. In other words, each 1up starts with the
same screen dot. With this option disabled, the screen will always start at the top left sheet
corner and will continue over the entire sheet.

Restrictions: Step and Repeat will not be performed when:

– the multiple 1ups are rotated, and the angle is not a multiple of 90° (e.g. 1 degree).

– the sheet has been tiled for proofing with “Proof / Page Size Settings / Page Size Policy:
Tile” option.

– the input is an Imposed PDF dropped into a hotfolder.

Color handling:

The Convert spot colors to CMYK function has been extended by the addition of the Over-
print Emulation option. You should apply this option only when you do not want any Tiff-B or
plate output in the workflow, i.e. if you want a proof only. This option allows you to show over-
printing on a proof.

Preview:

You can now also select a resolution of 150 dpi for preview generation.

Paper stretch compensation:

Paper Stretch Compensation settings have been enhanced.

Input of absolute percentages values in the web mode.

Dead Zone parameter in the sheetfed mode

The Dead Zone parameter in the sheetfed mode defines the starting point of the distortion. It
is now also possible to set asymmetric X-values.

Printmanager / Jobs

Complete Job List:

Two changes were made to the information areas of the Job List. The information on Product
Parts now also contains information on Versions.

The Plates column has been omitted. Instead, the Material Consumption column has been
added. It displays information on plates and proofs, or plates or proofs alone, depending on the
job processing.

Information is provided on: processed plates (proofs), scheduled plates (proofs) and the total
number in brackets. The “total number” appears when a signature is hidden.

Statistic:

Statistic provides information on: the number of jobs being printed, the material used, the num-
ber of separations. Right click on a job to open the context menu and choose Statistic to view
statistic information. You can do this from any of the Job List tabs, or from the Find list.

For a job in progress, statistics are shown for the required material, the number of jobs and the
number of separations.

Depot:

Archive tab has changed to Depot. The contextual menu available for archiving by right clicking
has also been renamed to Depot.

Find:

A Find function has been added in Prinect MetaDimension 7. This function acts like a filter. The
Depot is not included in the search. The Find function is not available in the Web UI.

Job priority Urgent:

The handling of jobs with priority Urgent has been improved: Urgent jobs can interrupt current
HighRes jobs.

– Transmission of a color set to the output device can be interrupted.

– Applies to Prinect MetaDimension and Prinect MetaShooter with FBDI and serial sorted
FBDI output.

– Applies to all connected CTP devices.

Accounting attribute:

With the job opened, you can specify an Accounting attribute in Signatures. MetaDimension
will return the appropriate attribute via JMF. Evaluation occurs in the MIS system.

– Normal is the default and means the plate is fully invoiced (attribute N = Normal).

– For operational reasons means the plate must be remade due to operational errors or
issues, e.g. due to scratches (attribute E = Self Assignment).

– Due to customer request or alteration, plate must be remade (A = Author Correction).

General: PDF Export

Prinect MetaDimension 7.0 automatically sets up a destination folder for PDF export. In Prinect
MetaDimension prior to 7.0 the job was canceled when the folder was not set up manually.

Plate on Demand

– The option Pause job before reprint in Administration / Configuration / Preferences has
no function for Plate on Demand. This setting will be ignored.

Note: The behavior described here is a feature that was already introduced in version 6.5.

– Pause after job preview and Pause after screen preview is ignored for Plate on
Demand without a local Tiff-B copy, i.e. after a recalculation.
