1.Given the widespread adoption of the Internet, can a virtual group (i.e.

,
one whose members interact electronically) be a group in the same way
that a traditional face-to- face group can? Why or why not?

A virtual group, one whose members interact electronically can never be a group
in the same way that a traditional face-to-face group. In a virtual setting, you can’t
properly connect to your group members because of having a limited understanding of
your group member’s personalities and behaviors. Unlike in a traditional face-to-face
group, you can easily create relationships with your group members and you can easily
share your ideas without being shy. In forming a group an effective communication is
essential.

2.Use a search engine to find information about each of the types of

groups identified in the chapter. Can you locate information about other
types of groups?

Formal Group- This is a type of group where people come together to

accomplish a specific goals and objectives. It is composed of managers and their
subordinates.

 Task Group- It is created by the organization to accomplish a specific action.

 Committee- It is created for a particular purpose and can be an integral part of an
organization’s operation.

Informal Groups- These groups are naturally formed in the environment in response to the
need for social contact.
 Friendship Groups- It is a type of group where the members have one or more
common characteristics.
 Interest Groups- It where the members are being united even though they don’t
belong to the same organization by their interest in a common issue.
Sub-classifications:
 Problem-Solving Group- This group is formed in order to identify the
problem of the company and to develop a solution.
 Learning Group- Members come together to increase their knowledge by
sharing their ideas/knowledge.

3.Identify an example of a team in which you are interested and find out
as much as you can about it on the Internet. An example might be your
favorite sports team or performing arts company.

A team has a purpose to achieve a specific goal for example FC

Barcelona, a famous soccer team, is always aiming to win the La Liga. The
members are always training hard in order for them to be physically and tactically
ready for each game and to win the La Liga.
4. In what ways might the Internet reshape organizational thinking about
teams?

During this pandemic, The internet is truly a big help in organizational

teams. Through using the internet organizational teams can perform their job
smoothly and perform well. The Internet has changed the way the organizational
team can communicate in modern workplaces. It made communication easier for
the team through Messenger or Viber. In this pandemic, the internet has truly
helped our business sectors transact their transactions easily.

5. Which do you think would result in a more effective team, one that is
first formed electronically and then begins to work together face to
face, or vice versa? Why?

I think the one that can create a more effective team is that when it is
formed from working together face to face rather than it is formed electronically.
In creating an effective team we need to establish a relationship within the group
for us to have nice effective communication, collaboration, and coordination.
When we do things virtually we might not create a relationship with our group
members and this can cause in having an ineffective team.

6. Use the Internet to find one example of each of the types of teams
identified in the chapter.

a. Quality Circles- These are groups of employees who meet regularly in the company
time or with in the workings hours, to consider ways in resolving matters in the
organization. For example when the group of employees are having a meeting about on
how to improve their product design.

b. Work Team- For example, the SM Group of Companies is owned by the Sy family.
Each of their family members is responsible for their area of the business. Like in the
BDO group of companies it is owned by Teresita Sy- Coson while Henry T.Sy Jr handles
the SM Prime Holdings. Both are under the SM Group of Companies.

c. Problem Solving Team- For example, during this Pandemic, Doctors around the world
are being united to form a vaccine against Covid 19.

d. Management Team- It is when managers from different departments have a weekly

meetings for sharing of recent developments or status update.

e. Product Development Teams- This team is the one who creates new ideas for a
product. For example, Apple is releasing new iPhones every year and this team is the one
who develops new product designs.
f.Virtual Teams- For example in call centers where the call center agents usually deal
with customer inquiries from customers around the world.
