Stabilization Techniques Part-1: Analog Electronics

This document discusses stabilization techniques for analog electronics. It covers topics like Q point stability, factors affecting Q point stability like temperature and beta, stabilization techniques like CB biased circuit, self biased circuit, and compensation techniques like diode compensation, sensistor and thermistor compensation, and transistor compensation. It also defines stability factors S, S', and S" which measure how the collector current changes with respect to changes in Ico, VBE, and beta respectively when other parameters are held constant.

Q Point

• It is the Quiescent point.

• If Q point is in middle of active region, it is

called symmetrical clipping circuit.
Stabilization Techniques Part-1

Procedure to draw DC load line & Q point

• Identify value of Vcc & Icmax of the given

circuit and locate this point on given
characteristics.

• Draw a straight line joining Icmax & Vcc, this

straight line is called DC load line.

• Find operating values Ic, IB, IBE for given

circuit and locate these values on given
characteristics.
Stabilization Techniques Part-1

Procedure to draw DC load line & Q point

• Project the operating values on dc load line

and intersecting point is Q point.

• Slope of DC load line is -1/Rc.

• Transistor is said to be under quiescent

condition when zero input signal is applied.

• Transistor can work as an amplifier only

when Q point is in active region.
• Transistor can work as a switch when
operated in saturation & cutoff region.
Stabilization Techniques Part-1

Procedure to draw DC load line & Q point

• Transistor will provide maximum power

gain/ maximum amplification when Q
point is in middle of DC load line.

• Q point is temperature sensitive.

Stabilization Techniques Part-1

Q point Stability is affected due to

• Tempeature
✓ Ico: it doubles for every 10 oC rise in
temperature.
𝑑𝑉𝐵𝐸 𝑚𝑉
✓ VBE: = −2.5
𝑑𝑇 ℃

• β
✓ β is highly affected due to
replacement of transistor.
