watched or with my nose inside some female written novel. The thing I am most passionate about in
life is storytelling, so when I'm not performing on a stage or onscreen, I'm finding escapism
elsewhere. Usually watching customers where I work, imagining what their lives look like and
inventing their backstories as if they're characters. It seems no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to
switch that creative side of my brain off, which is why I want to study acting and see how far it can
take me.
Creatively, I most enjoy the process of building a character and seeing them grow from an idea to a
tangible human being. I get such an intense feeling from performing a scene and believing every
word I am saying; it just feels so exhilarating and rewarding. Being an actor is such a unique
profession and as someone who thrives on being challenged and pushed out of their comfort zone,
everything about it feels natural to me.
A great quote I heard once by Tim Notke was " Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work
hard", which is something I have carried with me ever since. I think it's easy as an actor to get lost in
insecurity, I particularly have fallen victim to it in the past. But one thing I am as an individual is
hardworking, and the knowledge that I am constantly putting my best foot forward helps me tackle
self-doubt and not compare myself to others.
My current course of study is the Acting For Camera course at the Miskin Theatre in Dartford.
Studying screen acting has been a big shift for me but I am glad that I took on that challenge as I truly
believe that the Miskin has been the making of me. When I look back at the first project I did with
this course I see a drastically different actor; someone uncertain and indistinct. If I could say
something to my past self it would be to welcome criticism with open arms and take more risks. And
to my future self: I can't wait to meet you.
I grew up in a performance environment; with experience in musical theatre and various styles of
dance, I learned to cultivate self-discipline and confidence at a young age. I left dance when I was 13
to direct my focus into acting, where I joined an amateur theatre group and started doing plays,
which is where my acting skills really started developing. In my time at college, I have had the
opportunity to try my hand at filmmaking; directing (and co-directing) two 5 minute short films and
through which found a love in writing and producing. With filmmaking, I grew an appreciation for
the roles of different crew members and learnt about how every aspect of creating a film is a
different art form in its own right and became fascinated by the world that goes on behind the
camera.
With my theatre group; the Rainham Amateur Theatrical Society, we attended the Duncan Rand
One-Act Play Festival in 2018 and 2019, performing Enda Walsh's play Chatroom and Howard
Brenton's Gum and Goo. In 2018, I won the Best Supporting Actress award for my role as Eva in
Chatroom, and in 2019 our group won Best Ensemble for Gum And Goo. While in school I
participated in the Shakespeare Schools Festival, where we performed once a year in a showcase
with other schools. I played in both As You Like It and A Comedy Of Errors, which is where my love
for Shakespeare started.
My work experience firstly includes a local sandwich shop which was a tough job in many ways, but
it ultimately set the curve and made me into a more resilient person. My current retail job allows me
to talk to a variety of people, which is probably why I love it so much. As well as constantly put my
comfort zone to the test and push my confidence.
After completing the course, I hope to sign with an agency and where I can gain experience and
better myself as a performer. In an ideal world, I'd like to be a working actor when I leave university,
but to do what I love in any capacity in the future would be a dream.
