To Study, Design and Implement "Lan" Network: Electronics System Design-I (EC-705) Project-I Semester - 7 B.E. (E & C)

This document summarizes a student project to study, design, and implement a local area network (LAN) for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Technology in Vasad, India. It describes designing the LAN to connect user stations, servers, switches, routers, and other network components. Cabling, switching, routing protocols, firewall security, and wireless access were implemented. Testing was performed and results analyzed to ensure all components function properly according to requirements. Future expansions are also considered along with the applications and benefits of following a systematic life cycle approach to network design.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:

It gives us great pleasure and filling of complacency to present our project

titled “LAN SOLUTIONS” which we have successfully completed as a part of
our curriculum of this LY BE E&C syllabus.

On this juncture we would like to thank all the persons who constantly
guided us during the time of the difficulties while developing this project.

First and foremost we would like to give very special thanks to our project
guide Mrs. TWINKLE. V. DOSHI for developing us and rendering her
valuable suggestions.

We would like to express our special thanks to our external guide Mr.
NIHAR KAPADIA and the PKEL staff to whom we are indebted towards their
invaluable contribution in making my project more presentable.

Lastly we would like to thank the teachers of the E&C engineering

department at the SVIT for continuous support, encouragement and valuable
tips.

With thanks,

PREFACE:
Today mostly everyone is aware of the terms like INTERNET,
LAN, WAN etc. We find such network in every industry, university,
college, banks, govt. offices etc. This technology has changed the face
of data sharing among users connected to the network in terms of speed.
Data exchange can be done in a more efficient and secured way. Data
can also be stored and managed efficiently.
In this report covering our project topic “LAN SOLUTIONS” we
are discussing about the how a Local Area Network is setup on a site
based on the requirements and applications and the amount of data
sharing that is going to take place between the users connected to the
LAN. Additional to data sharing technologies like wireless access,
video conferencing and firewall security is also implemented to offer a
complete LAN solution with leading practices.
A very systematic life cycle approach is followed to make sure the
reports covers every aspect right from preparing and planning to operate
and optimization of the network.
First basic introduction to our project and concept is presented.
Then in design phase how different users are connected to each other
through cables and other important details is covered. Followed by this
is the detailed explanation about switching technology and routing
protocol which are extremely important for efficient internetwork. An
estimation of the materials like cables, trays, junction boxes etc. is
mentioned. In the end datasheets of active and passive components used
for the implementation are attached.
