    Poem Rubric

    Poetry is a place where you can be creative within the expectations for a given assignment although some types of
    poetry are more formulaic than others. Regardless, the purpose of your experimenting with poetry is to help to
    develop your own style. A part of that is being able to identify which devices you are utilizing. As you have
    discovered through reading poetry, it is meaningless if it does not impact the reader. To some degree this depends
    on the reader, but as your teacher, I promise to come to each piece with an open mind to assess its originality and
    creativity. Lastly, yes, conventions still matter, but you can begin to play with them as long as it is clear that it is
    purposeful, stick to what you know at first, then use punctuation to develop your style as well. Enjoy the process
    and let yourself grow!
